My wife had a bone marrow biopsy today and the medical staff had several attempts at collecting a sample but were unsuccessful. She and I have discussed this result. I am really worried about this. Has anyone had the same experience? Regards Bernard
Hi this happened to me the last time I had one ( 15 years ago) and they ended up taking it from my sternum and it was so much easier and better x
Kat77, Thanks for your response. Bernard
Hello @Bernard I am very sorry to hear this. It must have been very distressing for your wife. The first bone marrow biopsy I had many years ago was extremely difficult for the doctor to get a sample. At one point she left the room saying she didn’t have the right instruments. Eventually she did obtain a sample but stated it had been a challenge because my bone marrow was fibrous. I hope you get a satisfactory resolution to this. Thinking of you and your wife. X
Good morning Willow, Thank you for your message. We wait to see what the doctor proposes next. I assume my wife will be called back and another attempt will be made.Stay safe. God bless you. Bernard
My first bone marrow biopsy was hard to get samples even with 5 local anaesthetics and very painful agony in fact
The nurse managed to get something which was inconclusive so I had another done a week later by my consultant with gas and air and we got good samples
Hello 2DB, Thanks for your message. My wife has an impressively bruised area where the attempts were made. We (she) expect(s) to hear from the hospital with a date for a return bout. Stay safe. Regards Bernard.
Hi @Bernard
The bruise is something else isn’t it and quite tender. I hope all goes better with the next one
You guys stay safe too.
