Hi all. My dad is 75 with multiple pre-existing health conditions and has recently been diagnosed with MM. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated around questions we should ask the haematology team, how I could potentially best support him as well as preparing us both for what to expect once he starts treatment. He is currently in hospital where they’re trying to manage his pain before they will let him return home, but nothing seems to be working at the moment. Thanks in advance.

I’m sorry to read about your Dad’s diagnosis. It must be a difficult time for all of you as a family as well as your Dad.
My diagnosis was with a different cancer and I know you will get great support from others on the forum.

I am sorry to read that your dad has recently been diagnosed with myeloma and to hear that he is currently in hospital due to his pain. This is a really difficult time for you all and we are here to help and support you.
Starting treatment especially treatment which includes steroids can often help with myeloma pain and help with the symptoms. Questions which might be useful to ask the team include, when is my dad going to start treatment? what is the aim of treatment and will he need to attend hospital for his treatment? Will the treatment affect his existing health conditions and what help and support will be available for him once he goes home?
