I have been taking Hydroxycarbomide for 6 weeks now for Essential Thrombocythaemia ('ET') and often seem to have a mild sore throat, is that something others have experienced? I have also had a small mucocoel come up on my salivary glad in my mouth. The dentist checked it as ok but once again it seems like yet another possible hydroxy side effect. It feels like I am getting to become a real worry wart now. Again, has anyone else felt this feeling of being consumed by the diagnosis?! I would really appreciate some feedback thankyou
Hi @Judi
Thanks for your post. I am sorry to read about your mild sore throat. It is understandable that you are worried and it is natural to feel consumed by the diagnosis, especially when everything is new and unfamiliar. If it would be helpful to talk things through, the blood cancers nurses are always very happy to talk to you on 0808 2080 888 option 1.
A sore mouth and throat is a common side effect of hydroxycarbomide and can be a sign of infection so its important to let your team know so they can offer advice. I have enclosed some information from our colleagues at Macmillan which discusses this in more detail Macmillan Hydroxycarbomide information
Kind regards
Fiona (support services nurse)
