Rupertb
Hi i’m Rupert, I had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when I was 4 years old, I will be 47 in August this year. I was in and out of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Pendlebury, for several years and missed quite a lot of school. Think I am just realising how difficult this was for my mum as she often had to drop me back at school after a hospital visit and I wasn’t the most cooperative of children! I had further treatment at Christie’s in Manchester where all I can remember was having blue and red lines drawn on my head.
I think my immediate family probably took the main impact of those early years as I can only really remember wheelchair races round the ward with my brother! I am joining the group to see if I can help or support anyone young or old going through any stage of treatment. I am a big walker and like a pint or two and would love to set up a walking support group as I think it could be a great way of releasing tension. I have done a number of fundraising activities for leukaemia and will be completing the sw coast path before I am 50 so please come and join me.
Bye for now,
Rupert
