I’m 58, diagnosed with AML April 2008. Took 4 months to diagnose! Drs told my other half if I’d not started that Monday I’d have been dead by the Friday.
Started treatment a day early because I’d picked up the Nora virus when in hospital being diagnosed.
2 children - son 21, daughter 18 (at time). Husband who supported me at all times for 6 months, we were lucky that he was self-employed & we could afford it.
Strong extended family - 2 brothers with families, parents alive & active then. Still alive now but it’s all changed in the last 10 yrs!
Lucky to have brother that was a very good match. (My profile picture is of the 2 of us).
I didn’t realise quite how positive a person I was until I had to face this & think it was my determination that got me through. Also I took onboard everything the medical staff @ both hospitals told me & did what they told me. I believe that’s really important because they do know what they’re talking about.
I would like to thank the Heamatology team @ St.Richards, Chichester & the Transplant Team @ Southampton General Hospital.
Life is now ‘normal’!
