I was diagnosed with Polycythaemia Vera in 2018 when a pre-op blood test for an un-related condition showed I had a hermatacrit level of 0.65. As I was in my mid 60s I was classed as high-risk. Venesection didn’t really do much for me so have been taking Hydroxycarbamide daily ever since and have a stable HCT level of 0.43.
I was pleased to contribute to the Polycythaemia vera (PV) booklet produced by Blood Cancer UK last year.
