Hi,

My name is Wendy and 68 years old. I was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukaemia ('AML') with mutations Jan 2023. My first chemo, which I sailed through did not work so in September 2024 I had an allograph stem cell transplant. A babies umbilical chord. From day 1 the chemo to kill my bone marrow hit me like a train. I spent the first 8 weeks in hospital with gut infections before being discharged I was as weak as a kitten and had to learn to walk again as the steroids robbed me of my muscle mass. I lost 2st in weight because I couldn’t eat. I did regain quite good stamina but seem to have recently gone downhill. I am quite breathless and walking can be a real issue for me I suffer with fatigue, more so in the mornings. My stomach issues, namely sudden onset sickness and diarrhoea, do attack me out of the blue every couple of weeks I suffer with stomach acid which makes me nauseous but omeprazole and lanzoprazole give me stomach cramps and odoema in my feet and ankles. I am quite breathless now where I wasn’t before. I have my final bone marrow biopsy 17/8 and I really hope that will be clear. Everyone tells me how well I look as I have now gained the weight I lost but I just don’t feel it myself.

I hope this is informative for anyone that needs it.

Wendy
