Hi , I’ve had Chronic myeloid leukaemia ('CML') for 23 years and all is good I take 200 mg of glivec .
Recently I’ve had red itchy burning hands and feet and it’s driving me mad , it lasts about 2 hour, has anyone any ideas on what this could be , thank you in advance
Hello there @Kat77, welcome to the forum. Just wanted to say I am so in awe of you living with Chronic myeloid leukaemia ('CML') for so long, I wonder if you might have some tips of your own to share?
While I live with a different chronic blood cancer called Polycythaemia vera ('PV'), I’ve heard that many of us can experience itchy skin as a symptom of our blood disorders. Checking the Blood Cancer UK information about Chronic myeloid leukaemia ('CML') I see that rashes and itchiness can even be a side effect of a TKI medicine like glivec: Side effects of treatment | Blood Cancer UK
You’ll find many other forum members who live with Chronic myeloid leukaemia ('CML') and similar who have shared their tips about itchy skin if you check the search box at the top or Related Topics below.
Have you passed the itchiness by your specialists @Kat77, might be worth letting them know in case it continues. Something others say is helpful is to use colder water when washing, although I bet that sounds horrible in winter! Running water colder at first and then warming it slowly can agitate the skin less too, I’ve heard. Here’s the Blood Cancer UK information about itchy skin: Itching | Blood Cancer UK
Hope that helps a little @Kat77, do please look around the forum to get other ideas.
Great to here about you managing Chronic myeloid leukaemia ('CML') for 23 years. I was diagnosed with Chronic myeloid leukaemia ('CML') in August 24, first few months were quite hard coming to terms with it not just physically but mentally aswel but over time things have got better. Had a good appointment with my consultant yesterday she’s really pleased with how things are going at the moment. My last BCR came back from start of January at 0.12 ,it’s taken a while to get there I’m classed as a slow responder!! but I suppose we’re all different in the way the medication works for each individual (imatimib) Not to bad with side effects things have gradually improved. All the best stay healthy
Hi spen68, I was also a slow responder so don’t worry , it took 4 years to get a major molecular response , I was xx on 2003 and glivec was the only drug at the time and 23 years on and I’m still on it x
