A diagnosis of 'esrly mds'

I have been given these readings by the doctor yesterday…

Haemoglobin 123

White cells 3.3

Neutrophils 1.5

Platelets 73

Mcv 105

I’ve been given a working diagnosis of ‘early Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS)’

Had a bone marrow a couple of years ago which indicated ‘abnormalities’..

I’ve had readings out of sync now for 4 years..but recent results have gone worse. Next blood test is 3 months rather than 6…

What happens next please?

Hi @Stewart and welcome to the forum.

It’s so hard waiting for results isn’t and understanding test results is even more confusing.

I can’t answer the medical side of things about what happens next but have copied the @BloodCancerUK_Nurses who may be able to help more.

Remember the support line is there if you need to talk things through. How are you doing? It’s a lot to take in!

Dear @Stewart,
Welcome to our forum, I am sure you will get some really helpful replies from the community here.
Should you wish to talk things through you are very welcome to call us on 0808 2080 888, we would be very happy to talk things through with you.
I have attached here our pages on Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) - Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) | Blood Cancer UK which you might find helpful to read.
It sounds as though you are currently on ‘active monitoring’ where the team are keeping a close eye on your blood results. As there has been some recent changes they have made the time period between bloods shorter. If they notice a persistent change in your bloods they may consider whether there is a requirement for more regular monitoring or possibly some treatment. The team will talk through things with you if and when things change.
Currently its important that you keep an eye on your symptoms and if you notice any changes in how you are feeling to let the team know.
We are very much here for you and are happy to answer any questions you might have.
Best Wishes,
Heidi J (Support Services Nurse)

Welcome to the Forum @Stewart I hope you find it very useful. Heidi has given you some great advice. It’s always horrible waiting for test results and no use saying don’t worry. I always find trying to do fun things takes my mind of the horrible things and makes life less stressful. Let us know how you get on.
