Thank you all very much for your kind replies and good wishes.
I only had one tablet of my new medication (Duloxetine) for generalised anxiety disorder.
I was not happy to take medication for depression because I am not depressed. However, the doctor convinced me that it would help me, would calm me down and I would feel less stressed about my symptoms.
Within an hour of having taken the tablet, I begun to feel very dizzy and nauseous. I could not stand up and I thought I was about to faint. It was scary. I have never felt like that before.
I rang the surgery and asked to speak with my doctor. He rang me a couple of hours later and I told him what I had experienced soon after taken the tablet, He told me to stop taken them and, to my suggestion, he said that he would prescribe a smaller dose. So now I am waiting for the new smaller dose to arrive.
However, I do feel anxious about taken it. :pensive: I just don’t know what to do. That is my dilemma at the moment.
On the other hand, I have had some better more hopeful news from my medical team. My allocated nurse phoned me last week and told me that they are considering and trying to get me the medication that, according to my consultant, would give me relief from my nasty symptoms.
And I have had a letter from Guys Hospital, explaining that Professor Harrison is exploring access to compassionate drug for me.
So, those are my latest news. I am hoping and keeping my fingers crossed.
Meantime, I continue to suffer with burning and itching skin most days.
Thank you again, my friends. Look after yourselves. Sending love and gratitude. x

Hi @oleconchi, thank you for sharing this. We are pleased to hear you have had contact with your GP and team, and we hope that things may move forwards for you now. I’m sorry to hear of the awful side effects you mentioned- it’s understandable you’re feeling anxious now. I wondered whether you’d find it helpful to share your feelings with your GP at all to help guide you through this? It might be that the GP can reassure you or look at alternatives.

Do take care.

Best wishes,
Tanya.

That sounds a lot more positive and I have everything crossed that the doctors come up
trumps with the medication. It’s good that the lines of communication are now open! Keep us updated X

@oleconchi Delighted to hear that you’re getting better care from your GP and Haematology team. I am sorry that the medication that you have been given for your General Anxiety Disorder (GAD) has caused side effects.
If you scroll up through this thread, you will see that I suggested in an earlier post that it may be worthwhile trying Talking Therapies - the free NHS service, especially if medication may cause additional problems. Talking Therapies aims treat the source of the GAD rather than just treat the symptoms. You can talk through your anxieties with a qualified professional over the phone and there are lots of online tools that you can try, such as mindfulness exercises. I have personal experience of this service as I also suffered from GAD after my father died and found it very, very helpful.
I hope you feel better soon. Having GAD is all consuming. My heart goes out to you.
