Awaiting or considering or had a stem cell transplant, a place to share here

I’m so glad you are home! Bet it’s lovely to be back in your own bed. Take care and rest whilst trying to enjoy some home comforts X

Great news you’re home, @Summertime. That was quite quick - well done.

Make sure you keep nice and warm - many people really feel the cold after the Stem cell transplant. And eat whatever you like when you can. Your strength will come back. My husband had to shove my bottom as I went up the stairs, when I first came home! It all takes time.

Take care. X

So pleased! Home is a really positive effect on your progress: although you will be startled by how much walking (shuffling) there is at home after a small room. Sending huge hugs xxxx

I’m so cold I walk around looking like the Michelin tyre man - no one mentioned I would feel cold!! Thank you @Fullofbeans xx

So true about the amount of walking at home, @ChrisCKW. My leg muscles had really wasted away, so it was good I had to do all that shuffling.

Ha ha - I know the Michelin Man look! I even wore a woolly hat in bed! I’m only just warming up now, and I got out in Feb.

Hope you’re doing alright now, Chris.

I’m doing ok thank you @Fullofbeans, a bit concerned that platelets dropped, so I have fingers tightly crossed that they will be climbing back up. Waiting on bone marrow aspiration results, and have fingers crossed for that too.
As for cold I’ve taken to wearing my thermal walking top underneath 2 more layers of jumpers AND a body warmer  xxx

Oh bless you, @ChrisCKW, you really are feeling that chill!
Am sorry your platelets have dropped a bit - everything crossed they pick up soon. Have seen a few people mention this issue, and then they seem to recover from this blip. Hopefully you too.
Oh, those aspirations - not nice. Nor the waiting. I hope you can have a celebration about the results very soon. I haven’t had a biopsy/aspiration since my Stem cell transplant. I gather practice differs from hospital to hospital, and also according to the original gene mutations. I’m not sure whether I’m relieved, or would like the reassurance. Relieved mostly, I think! Best of luck with it.

Hi @ChrisCKW I have my fingers and toes crossed for you too.
What you need is a honey monster onesie like mine, I brought it at a cheapo shop a few years ago before my hysterectomy and it is so cosy and I feel cosseted in it.
I wear it for watching Strictly, it is my little ritual.
Yes, you really celebrate Day 100 and keep warm, a wooly hat in bed sounds a good idea from @Fullofbeans

Erica I’m tiny! perhaps I could find something in a child’s size (M&S and Tesco age 11 fit perfectly!) :joy: have teeny tiny feet too (size 1)
And I lost a few pounds through treatment so I really am pocket size.
But I do snuggle up in fluffy PJs and a fluffy Gruffalo dressing gown which has a hood ….

Oh @ChrisCKW I want your outfit, it is so great, those ears are wonderful.
Thanks so, so much for the photo, it’s made my day.
There is also nothing like your own cuppa at home is there.

Pocket size but perfect I bet! :kissing_heart::wink:

Love it Chris  My skin is very dry too, what are you using for it? I am using a dermal wash in the bath but its hard to keep the hickman dry with the dangly bits.
Im going to have a little walk to my sons bench soon to stretch my legs and will wrap up like santa
Still finding getting the tabs down difficult. We had a call about 9 last night from Dr Russell, apparently after clinic they look at bloods etc and look to make changes to meds.
Did you get your results Chris? I hope they were good.
We go on Monday and Friday next week so maybe will see you in clinic.
Still finding eating a bit difficult but trying to tempt myself with nice things. My girls are desperate to come to see me but Dr Russell said just be careful to start with xxx

Oh @Danmar, I am so sorry to hear of the horrible time you have had with your transplant. You must have been so worried. I had a nasty infection when the line was removed and ended up back in hospital but nothing compared to the time you have had. We have all been thinking of you and although I’m shocked at what you have had to endure I’m so heartened that you are slowly but surely getting stronger. Sending lots of hugs your way, this will become a distant memory as you recover :hugs::hugs: xxx

Hi @Summertime, so pleased that you are back at home. The weakness is hard but slowly you will start to feel better. Take it steady and don’t try to do too much straight away. Give your body and mind time to heal. You’ve been through a lot and it takes time. Sending lots of hugs your way :hugs::hugs:xxx

Hi @Chris, looking good girl. Nice to see you looking gruffed up, looks super cosy. I’m glad you’re doing so well. I’m feeling pretty good now. I’ve had my 100 day BM aspiration too, really hurt :disappointed_relieved: but a necessary evil I guess. Your platelets are playing up so are my neutraphiles but hoping that our bloods will settle soon. Always a worry, they think mine might be too many antibiotics so they have taken me off them. Had my first Covid and flu jab so starting to feel a bit more normal. Lots of love your way xxx
