Good morning,
Quick question:
My Husband has been living with Essential Thrombocythemia for 3 three years & takes Hydroxycarbamide & Aspirin.
His last 2 blood test have shown an increase in his Platelet level & his Haematologist has increased his medication.
He is well, apart from fatigue & itchiness.
Should I be concerned??
Many thanks

I’m not a medical professional to answer that question but tinkering with dosage of hydroxycarbamide is very normal.
Haematologists will typically start on a lower dosage for a duration of time to see if the body can handle the treatment slowly in an attempt to limit the side effects. Once things appear fine they may up dosage to find the optimum dosage for the patient. This is often a slow process.
This concerned me when i was on hydroxy but it was explained to me that everyone’s dosage is different and an increase is not always a sign of things getting worse which was a relief more than your body is used to it and potentially the current dosage has run its course and body needs a treatment bump to make the medication fulfil its purpose

Hi @Mel1967
I can see @Rammie18 has shared his experiences with you and I hoped that has helped.
I was wondering when your husbands next appointment is so that you can talk this through with his medical team?
