I’ve read that some Blood Cancers entitle you for free tests & treatments for Covid. Can anyone tell me which blood cancers. For I fo I have Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) & Polycythaemia vera (PV)
Hi @DougyW
Your Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML)) entitles you to free Covid tests and treatment if you get Covid. You need to produce evidence of your diagnosis to get the tests free. Not all pharmacists will honour this though so you might need to shop around.
Don’t know about the Polycythaemia vera (Polycythaemia vera (PV)) I’m afraid but in the Green Book there is a list of qualifying diseases. Search on Gov.uk
Hope this helps
Hello @DougyW
Thank you for your post. We are sorry to hear of your diagnosis of Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) & Polycythaemia vera (PV) and we hope you are doing okay.
I can see that @ChrissyD has provided you with a very helpful answer and is correct in saying that patients with blood cancers are eligible for free tests and treatments. For more information on this, it may be helpful to read over our page Covid antibody and antiviral treatments for people with blood cancer | Blood Cancer UK which explains about free tests, treatments and how to access these. Your Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) will qualify you for free tests and treatment, the Polycythaemia vera (PV) would qualify for this if you were on active treatment. Your pharmacist may ask you to fill in a form if getting this from a pharmacy.
If you have covid we would strongly advise informing your treating team, they should also be able to advise on how to access treatment too and can provide additional cover letters if needed.
We also have a page How to get a covid vaccine if you have blood cancer | Blood Cancer UK.
If you would like further support with any of this or would like to talk anything through with a member of our support team, please get in touch on 0808 2080 888.
Take care & best wishes,
Emma (Support Services nurse)
