Enlarged lymph node in neck, enlarged spleen and low red blood

Hi

My little boy is 3. We have noticed for 4 weeks an enlarged lymph node is the left side of his neck. It measured 5cm by 5cm and is painless. He has had no illness, not even a runny nose, for months. Just in the past week he has started to get tired, falling asleep sat up.

At hospital he has had scans and tests which have showed low red blood cells and enlarged spleen and other enlarged lymph nodes.

the doctor was quite rude to me and basically said there’s nothing to worry about and he most likely has EBV virus. They have tested his blood for that and we’re waiting for the results. However, if the test shows he doesn’t have EBV he will be referred to oncology.

As you can imagine I’m very worried especially as he has had no fever, no sore throat, no runny nose etc to imply EBV virus or glandular fever etc.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Could you get EBV virus with no other symptoms and the glands not being painful?

Thank you for reading

Hi @Steph2309 and a big welcome to the forum.

I’m really sorry you find yourself here. It’s hard enough dealing with a diagnosis but when its your child it must be so hard.

I’m sorry the medical team didn’t put you at ease and make time to talk things through with you as it’s only natural you are going to be worried.

I know it’s hard but try not to think too far ahead. When have they said you will get the results?

The support line is ever so helpful if it would help to talk things through. I’ve copied the link below.

Please keep posting. I’m hoping there may be others who can share their experiences with you x
