ET diagnosis finally sinking in

Hi @Erica - thank you for asking how I am- I don’t often get asked that! I’ve been really tired for the last few weeks but all my own fault as I have been doing too much, starting with a big family gathering here. I was surprised how long the effects of it lasted! But on the positive side my platelets are still down and apart from some itchiness I don’t have any other problems, so I’m actually very lucky.

Take care everyone

Hi @Erica @Jimbo165 @Chrispy and everyone else.

Interestingly when I had my telephone consultation the other day my consultant told me that pegasys was now being produced by the new manufacturers and that people will be swopped back from Besremi to pegasys ( unless of course they need to stay on Besremi for medical reasons) I was so relieved to hear that!

Any news @Jimbo165 ?

Take care everyone

Good afternoon @Gillyj, @Erica, @Chrispy and all other thread followers, hope you are all well.

I am happy to say that I have found my “new” home and should be moving in to it in early October. I will be closer to work, and closer to my fortnightly social outing establishment too, although further away from LRI. Having spoken to both my local Hinckley hospital, where the leeches are based, and to LRI itself, I can stay under my Consultant’s Team as long as my blood is taken within the County. I’m happy to do so therefore I’ll be staying put, medically speaking.

Now then, yesterday (Friday 12th Sep) I was at LRI for the results of Wednesday’s blood taking and finally I can report signs of stability in my platelet count. :+1: It is still a bit high, but relatively stable, which I am quite chuffed about.

However, and as dear @Erica will testify to, it wouldn’t be an update from me without an “however”, my LFT score was gone up “significantly” to high of 195. The normal range is, apparently, between 0 and 50, hence the “significantly” remark from my Consultant. Cue much head scratching and questioning as to what to do next. The answer is two sets of blood tests in 10 days time, with a follow up telephone call about the results and either “yes or no” to my next Besremi injection. The hope is that the LFT will have either gone down considerably or at least show signs of going in the right direction, with a further aim of cutting out completely the Hydroxycarbamide capsules.

On the subject of the Besremi/Pegasys debate, my Consultant has said that they too are being “encouraged” to move people back on to Pegasys but, in my case, they will be resisting as the Besremi seems to be working well for me, something that the Pegasys had stopped doing last year.

As always, stay safe, take care, be kind to yourselves, keep smiling and Thank You all for your kindness and thoughts.

Best wishes,

Hi @Jimbo165 I am so, so overjoyed and glad that you have found your new home, what a relief.

Geographically it would be unusual for it to be nearer to everything but it sounds you have talked to the right people.

Good news to on the platelet count, ‘however’ your LFT is now not behaving.

The Besremi/Pegasys debate is a very interesting one, and stocks being available, some people will probably be found to now be more suited to be on one than the other for various reasons.

Happy packing and as always, stay safe, take care, be kind to yourselves and keep smiling @Jimbo165 and all

Hi all. I was thinking about you earlier today @Gillyj and wondering how you were doing. I am glad to hear we might be returning to Pegasys. Most of my initial platelet drop was on pegasys and only a very small drop was on Besremi. The pegasys dose was going to be increased at the point it became short in supply so i am hoping the the bigwigs next week will recommend i return to it. The 3 week besremi had been kinder on my tummy this time but i was anxious to see what would happen. The cramps on the 2 week regime were very painful and i could not stay on that.

Glad to hear you have sorted a new home @Jimbo165 and the platelets are stable. Our bodies don’t really like these medications though do they? what helps one thing causes problems elsewhere. I hope they get to the bottom of it quickly. Strangely i had a skin reaction to my last jab for a few days that i haven’t had before. just a bit red and itchy and has sorted itself out but a strange one.

And the lovely @Erica i hope all is going ok for you too. You are a great support to us all.

Good evening @Chrispy, @Duncan, @Gillyj and dear @Erica, along with everyone else following this thread, I hope that you are all as well as can be.

Just an update from me following Wednesday’s Blood Tests and today’s Telephone Consultation. My ALT Liver Function has come down from its peak of 195, down to 99, which is good, but still high. The outcome of the phone call is that I can have my Besremi jab this evening. Here is where the plot twist enters from stage left!

I attempted to jab myself but nothing happened! The plunger within the Besremi pen has buckled and the dosage has remained within the body of the pen rather than move to within the body of the patient, i.e. ME!

As followers of my posts will recognise, and I suspect that I am not alone in this matter, it is remarkable how these events always seem to occur in the evening or over the weekend!

Hopefully I have been able to attach a picture of the offending, and buckled, plunger! Fortunately I do have another pen to use and I hope that no other users have had any issues like this. I will attempt to contact the LRI pharmacy tomorrow but I am “ramping up” for my house move on Wednesday so time is of the essence.

As always, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves (Copyright Erica!) and keep on smiling.

Best wishes,

Evening @Jimbo165 , @Erica @Chrispy and everyone else.

It always seems to be good and bad doesn’t it :joy:- good re LFT bad re buckled injection!! How on earth did that happen- had you been for a gym workout and you were tensing your abs??

Went to see Matthew Bournes Swan Lake today- it was the most amazing performance- thoroughly recommend it if anyone gets the chance to see it.

Good luck with the move on Wednesday.

Hope @Erica and @Chrispy you’re both doing ok?

Gillyj

Good afternoon @Gillyj and everyone else, thank you for your kind words. I appear to simply be unaware of my own strength!

I don’t know, although I suspect, that the “plunger” inside the body of the syringe may have “seized” on where the seals meet the walls. This was to have been the second dose from this device as I am on the 125 dose every 4 weeks.

As for going to the gym; I get enough exercise simply jumping to conclusions. Besides that, I am usually too knackered to even consider going to a gymnasium, as well as being far too much of a Scrooge to fork out hard earned dosh on a membership! :joy:

I am glad that you had a good time at the Ballet and expect, if you do the Walk of Light next year, that you will do so on your tiptoes as a tribute to the “Troope de Ballet”!

I shall let you all know how the move goes.

Take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves and keep on smiling.

Best wishes,

Hi @Jimbo165 - nothing would be further from the truth if I did the walk again next year- when I was 7 I tried ballet and the teacher took my mother to one side and told her not to waste her money :joy::joy:- I then learnt to ride instead!

Hope you don’t get too tired with the move- take it easy and don’t try to do everything at once!

Good afternoon @Gillyj, @Duncan, @Chrispy, dear @Erica and everyone else following this thread, I hope that you are all as well as can be.

Apologies for my “comms blackout” but I am 99% moved out of my old dwelling in Hinckley and I am now safely ensconced in my new residence in Bedworth. So I have moved from Leicestershire to Warwickshire. I am now closer to work (5 miles instead of 14 miles), closer to my Fortnightly Social Outing watering hole (by about 5 minutes). However I am about 9 miles further away from LRI, but you can’t have everything you want!
Sadly, and painfully, my gum infection has returned, and with a vengeance. It made its presence felt during the course of yesterday afternoon, so I was unable to speak to my dentist then or, indeed, today! At the moment I feel, and look, a bit like Joseph Merrick, with the right side of my jaw being nicely swollen!

As I have remarked in the past, these things almost always seem to occur at the weekend.

As always, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves and keep on smiling.

Best wishes,

Hi @Jimbo165 @Erica @Duncan @Chrispy

That’s good news you’re virtually settled in your new home, and hopefully you visit your work and watering hole more often than the hospital so that works well!

Your gum infection sounds really nasty- let’s hope your dentist and / or doctor can get it sorted :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:- they’re such painful things.

Have you had strong winds up there? It was pretty manic here yesterday but calming a bit now. It managed to break my back door as the wind slammed it- just when my better half is away do it will have to wait till he’s back!

Take care everyone

Oh @Jimbo165 (@Gillyj @Duncan @Chrispy and all) That is brilliant that you limbo transitioned into your new des res.

Oh, a gum infection must be painful. I find as soon as I overdo it an infection rears it’s head somewhere and yes, as we always say at the weekend.

Let’s hope you soon get into a new comfortable routine.

And yes, as always, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves and keep on smiling everyone.

Good evening dear @Erica (@Chrispy, @Duncan, @Gillyj and everyone else), well I managed to get in to see the “fang feef” this afternoon and, shock horror, he would like to remove the malicious molar if this new course of “bionic antibiotics” doesn’t kill the infection off completely. I’m not too sure how I feel about this as I seem to be losing my teeth as much as I am losing my hair!

And I’m back to work in the morning! Hopefully it won’t be too long, or stressful or tiring a day.

As always, my fellow and fellowette forumittes, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves and keep on smiling.

Best wishes,

Hi @Jimbo165 (@Gillyj @Erica ) That sounds so painful and losing body parts doesn’t sound fun at all. Hope they can give you sufficient pain relief

My last blood test looked ok with things going in the right direction but i have other problems now. A routine breast cancer check has revealed a 4th occurrence of breast cancer. So far it appears to be small and not too aggressive but will mean surgery and probably radiotherapy. MRI and CT scans in a weeks time to check the rest of me so will have to wait to see if there is anything else.

Oh @Chrispy im so sorry to hear this! You sound relatively upbeat about it but I’m sure inside you’re not. I do hope you get positive news on it- keep us posted- will be thinking of you and keeping everything crossed :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Oh @Chrispy I can not imagine how you are really feeling about your re-occurrence of breast cancer, please do keep us posted, I am sure I can speak for all your fellow forum buddies that we are all here to support you.

Oh, the dreaded waiting and not knowing again.

Be ever so kind to yourself

Hi @Erica @Gillyj and @Jimbo165 I think they are covering everything with the scans so now i am worried they may find something else. It makes sense to do them i know but yes there will be a wait for the results. On the plus side i have been here before and i know what treatment i will agree to and that i will not.

I should have been gone a long time ago so i take every day as it comes and try to get a quality of life if i am not going to get quantity.

x

Hi @Chrispy - the good thing is at least with all the scans you will know exactly what you’re facing/ and with any luck it will just be the breast lump. You sound like you have been through the wringer over the past years, you also sound very strong and that’s whats needed now. I hope you have some good family and friends to support you?

We’re all here to support you as well , let us know how scans go

best wishes

Good morning all (@Chrispy, @Duncan, @Erica, @Gillyj and everyone else) I hope that you are all as well as can be. Chrispy, I am so sorry to hear of the (unwanted!) reappearance of breast cancer and I very much hope that it has been “found” early enough for it to be dealt with in a timely and (relatively) pain free manner.

Fortunately my latest gum infection (which really does pale in to insignificance) has just about gone, and my antibiotics finish tomorrow, so I’m hoping to feel a little better after that.

I had booked my flu jab for yesterday (Saturday) and was “suckered in” by the cheerful greeting I received when I walked in through the front door of the Medical Centre. I was seen by my actual GP who is always wary around me as he is the Doctor I saw 4 days before my 1st (to date!) heart attack and he advised me that, in his opinion, “my chest pains were nothing too concerning”! Life is too short to hold grudges and I still see him when I need to! Anyway, I wandered out of the Centre with two sore arms as I also was given my Autumn Covid19 booster too.

So with my B12 jab this coming Wednesday, followed by my Besremi jab on Friday, I will very much like I have tripped over and landed on a Porcupine!

I must confess to feeling absolutely, totally and completely exhausted at the moment; I think the house move, the infection, the meds and being back at work are conspiring against me!

As always everyone, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves and keep on smiling.

Best wishes,
