ET jak 2 Shingles vaccine

Yes I am well today thanks. It is sunny here today and that makes such a difference. I might go for a cycle ride later if it stays nice. Take care. :sparkling_heart::bike::tulip: Chris

Thank you @JanPS for starting this thread about the Shingrix vaccine, which I had never heard of before you mentioned it. I have recently had a consultation with my transplant hospital and they agreed - because I asked - that it would be a good idea for me to have it (but as @Chris1 has said, it’s a lottery as to whether we are offered it or not). I have filled in an e-consult for my GP and hope things will progress from there. I am soon to start a new course of treatment for relapsed myeloma so I think this information has come at a good time.

On a different note, it looks as if there are going to be some Spring Covid booster vaccines available soon…

Hoping everyone is keeping as well as possible and enjoying the signs of spring.

And three months later…today I had my first Shingrix vaccine!! It kept getting cancelled and then it was too close to my covid booster (needs to be 2 weeks+ afterwards) but today was the day!

So far I feel fine - not sure if that is a good thing as sometimes big reactions mean better immunity?? I’m on IRD at present so I don’t know how effective the vaccine will be. I didn’t realise you need two doses either but the next one is booked into the system.

I hope @Chris1 and @Fullofbeans that you are feeling well now and enjoying this lovely May sunshine :sunny: I was reassured to read that Covid was bearable @Fullofbeans and that you were not left with any lasting effects.

Good morning @Coastgirl . I am pleased to hear that you have now had your first Shingrix vaccine. I had my second one on Tuesday and I have had a very bad reaction to it. My muscles and joints have flared up, and I had an awful headache. It has eased a little bit today, so hopefully I will be better soon. My first injection only gave me a sore arm and a bit of a headache, so I was surprised that the second one had such a bad effect on me. I thought I had got away with it this time. Maybe it was a bigger dose. I hope you are not having too many after effects from your vaccine. I wouldn’t wish what I have been through on anyone. At least we should have a good immunity against the shingles now, so it has been worth it. Take care of yourself, and good luck with the second one when you have it. I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you don’t get a bad reaction. :tulip:

Great you’ve finally got it, @Coastgirl! I hadn’t realised there needed to be a gap between vaccines either. And hopefully you won’t get the reaction @Chris1 did! (Sorry to hear that, @Chris1.)

Yes, the covid itself wasn’t too terrible - like my husband (who isnt immunocompromised) I had 4 days of being not very well. However, a couple of weeks later, fatigue set in. Apparently my blood cell counts have dropped (causing the fatigue) and my haematologist thinks covid is the likely culprit. I’m still very tired all these weeks later. Just hoping it will lift soon - summer is on it’s way (I hope) and I am determined to have some fun.

Thank you @Chris1 and @Fullofbeans for your kind thoughts.

In fact I had very little reaction - just a slightly sore arm  So I’m really sorry to hear about your two bad reactions @Chris1 and hope it means you’re well-tanked up with anti shingles antibodies. It was nice not feeling ill afterwards, for sure.

Meanwhile @Fullofbeans I so hope this post-Covid fatigue will soon be on its way out ready for some summer fun :sunglasses:
