Ethnic Minorities Cancer Awareness Month - Images of Skin Request

Could you help our media team with the following request?

Image request:
If you are from a black or South Asian background, we would be hugely grateful for your help with this!

We are working with a healthcare professional and influencer called Dr Nighat Arif for Ethnic Minorities Cancer Awareness Month this July. She is doing a social media reel to highlight how signs and symptoms present differently in black or South Asian skin tones. We are not looking for anyone’s face to feature but if anyone would be happy sharing a photo they have of their own symptoms, specifically bruising, rash or pallor. We are particularly keen to find an image that demonstrates change of pallor.

Paleness (pallor) might mean someone looks unusually pale because they have too few red blood cells. Pallor is often more immediately noticeable in light skin. People with black or brown skin may look greyish and their palms may look paler than usual. They might also notice pallor in their lips, gums, tongue or nail beds. In all skin tones, pallor can be seen by pulling down the lower eyelid. The inside is normally dark pink or red, but if it’s pale pink or white, it’s a sign of pallor.

This is Dr Nighat Arif’s Instagram handle if helpful to see: https://www.instagram.com/drnighatarif/?hl=en
