Evening all, I hope everyone is keeping well and enjoying the warmer weather.
I’ve noticed, following my last 3 Pegasys injections (currently every two weeks)that approximately 36 hours after injecting I feel very nauseous, and for several hours, leading to occasional vomiting.
I wonder if any of my fellow Pegasys users have similar occurences.
Symptoms are often most prominent when you start taking new medications or for first few times.
I was on Pegasys for over a year and was lucky not to endure any side effects… however I am now nervous about moving to another treatment which my med team have recommended
Good evening to all Pegasys users and readers of this topic. I know that it has been over two years since this thread was last used but I feel its the correct one for my post.
I injected last night, on my 3 weekly 135mg cycle, and had a strange experience: a small, what can only be described as a, lump appeared at the injection site and remained through until this afternoon, getting smaller as the day progressed. It was firm to the touch but not sore, although I didn’t prod it too hard as I’m not feeling very brave these days and don’t like pain! I don’t know if I injected in to a particularly “tough” piece of my manly and muscular torso (unlikely!) or if there was some other obvious reason that anyone else can advise me on. I will be mentioning this to the consultant, or one of her team, at my next appointment on the 18th of this month. This was a first for this happening and I was a fair bit surprised by this lump. It was about 10mm long by approximately 4mm across and probably about 3mm deep, so not too far off the size of the injection.
As always, and apologies for reactivating this semi-dormant thread, but stay safe and take care.
To be fair I do have a bald patch too but it is on the opposite end of where o used to inject. Trying to think if one week I decided to mix it up which caused it. Is left or right side? Not that it should make a difference. Mine is on my right.
Definitely something to investigate. Sometimes a side effect takes time to make an appearance and they do say they don’t know the long term effects of interferon
Hello @Jimbo165 - oh that’s annoying to get it for first time after six years isn’t it! I had five years on Peg and did used to find at the site of my injection I would get a raised reaction for a few days after injecting - almost like the reaction you get after a vaccine - I got it more so when my dose when higher and I only ever went up to 90- without any medical knowledge at all of course I wonder if it’s your current higher dose sparking it a bit?!- as always your medical team will be the port of call to answer that - funny enough I had that reaction each week in the first few years using Peg and then very rarely in the last few years of using it🤷🏼♀️ As we always say reactions with all the meds are very individual aren’t they!
Good morning @Rammie18, yep, the lump has completely gone now but I will mention it to the medical fraternity when I next see them, and will also keep a close eye out in case it makes a repeat appearance in the future.
I too inject on alternative sides of my stomach. and when it was either a weekly or a fortnightly injection it was quite easy to see which side had been “abused” last time as it was redder and angrier looking than the “at ease” side. But being back on three weekly jabs it is more difficult to tell as both sides are more faded, so I have taken to marking my kitchen calendar with an L or an R. I then end up looking at the calendar a week or sa later and wondering what the L/R means! Is this an old age issue?
I have to be careful with the Rolling On The Floor emoji in case I can’t get back up off of the floor!
As always, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourself and keep on smiling.
Good morning @Jilly20, and thank you for your kind words and experiences of Pegasys. I have noticed that on the higher dose that my insides seem to be hurting more, and feeling a lot “hotter”, if that makes sense.
I have always had “the snuffles” after taking Pegasys; they usually arrive within an hour or two of injecting and last for several days, depending on dosage size.
We are indeed all individuals, with some, more or fewer other issues and comorbidities, all designed to keep the medical fraternity “on their toes” as what may have worked well for one patient may react totally differently in the next.
My former wife was prescribed various medications for the “known side effects” rather than what they were created for, which I believe to be quite agile and adaptive thinking.
“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain” and boy (and girl), don’t all Forum members and users know about that!
Oh, @Jimbo165 thanks so much for that saying, I think it is so true, I will go and get my waterproof twinkle toes dancing shoes on, a smile on my face and there will be no stopping me.
Good afternoon @Erica, and everyone else, I hope that you are well and that you haven’t needed to make too much use of your waterproof twinkle toes dancing shoes!
Well as I have now experienced 3 lots of my 135mcg injections, at 3 weekly intervals, it seems as though the effects I experienced after the jabs 1 and 2 have now been copied by jab 3, with its added bonus of the injection site lump reported last week!
Friday night saw the usual sniffles and snuffles appear, deepen and develop over the weekend before the downhill journey began on Monday and Tuesday. Today, Wednesday, I have felt incredibly lethargic, so unbelievably fatigued and in a fair amount of discomfort although the last of those feelings is beginning to ease now (4pm). And, on a daily basis, a series of worsening headaches to accompany these other feelings.
I have been off work today but have spent much of the morning “boring myself senseless” catching up with some overdue (and fairly pointless!) online training for work, but that is the modern way I guess.
All being well (or as well as can be) I shall be back at work tomorrow morning.
Meantime, I have my Covid and flu jab on Saturday, bloods on Tuesday, a telephone appointment with Occupational Health on Wednesday and then I’m back at LRI to see the consultant on Friday. And I’ve just booked my HGV Medical test for the 19th of October too. I feel as though I am being far too busy, especially at my age!
As ever, take care, stay safe, be kind to yourselves, carry on smiling and try to avoid getting soggy!
Oh @Jimbo165 those side effects sound really rotten.
My diary is equally as hectic and I am trying to ‘de-clutter’ and ‘de-stress’ my life, if only I had the time to do it.
Yes, I got to the hospital soggy this week and then had to put wet clothes on and never got warm all day.
Mind you it cannot stop me smiling, I don’t know about you!!!
Gosh - I’m tired just reading about your busy week!
I love the rain, as long as I’m indoors snuggled under a blanket.
I hope you start to feel better soon
