Quick update! Called the hospital today to try to find out when the fibroscan might be, said I can be there in 20 minutes if they had a cancellation. Got a call back 10 minutes later to see if I am free on Friday! Of course I am!
Happen to have my 3 monthly Haemotology appointment next Monday so hopefully I should have a reason soon as to what is causing the high ferritin.
Oh @Suey good news please do let us know how you get on.
Be kind to yourself
So I eventually saw the liver consultant yesterday, he said I donāt have iron overload and doesnāt think venesections are necessary. He is going to do an endoscopy (something else to freak me out!) and is still waiting for some blood results but isnāt overly concerned about my liver. He frustratingly told me to lose weight, I have only recently returned to my pre cancer weight as after transplant I was told not to diet!!
I thought I was done with Haemotology appointments but I have one in July so I hope they have the same opinion about the venesections.
Hi @Suey. Itās good to get an update.
Just when we think one thing is sorted thereās something else!
Good news about the venesections and your liver, that must be a relief.
Please let us know how you get on with your endoscopy
Hi, new to forums, I donāt usually do these things but found it so helpful late last night when searching for other peopleās experiences - so thank you all! I have been in remission from AITL for just over 4 years, high ferritins were discovered about a year ago, 2200 at the time. I also took my fatigue as being just a result of the trauma my body went through and work 4 days a week with mid-week break as I feel Iām at 80% of where I hope to be for my age. Iām half way through my venesection journey, big drop after the first but the last two drops have been piddling! Am holding on to the fact that apparently this can happen and I might get a bit more energy. I also have a liver consultant who thinks I donāt need venesection as the 18 blood transfusions were nearly 5 years ago, but a new non-oncology haematologist gave me the option. The best thing my liver guy did was arrange another CT scan to confirm no relapse and no genetic reason. Good luck to all.
A great big welcome @Maddys61 to our forum and thanks so much for filling us in with what has gone on and what is going on for you.
That sounds a good idea of doing your 4 day week with a mid week break.
I look forward to hearing more about you.
Look after and be very kind to yourself.
