Went to hospital for my first dose of obinutuzumab….the test one. They said I’d be staying in overnite as my recent bloods showed very high white cells. Also had only 73 haemoglobin. Infusion had to be stopped as I had a bad reaction. Temperature, short of breath and vomiting.
They managed to finish infusion but I was still sick and couldn’t eat. Feeling better now. Has anyone experienced similar on day 1?
Thanks

Hello @ELGall1996
Thank you for taking time to post on the forum
I’m so sorry to learn about your recent experience.
I’m afraid I cant relate as I have not had any treatment for my blood cancer yet as I am on active monitoring. That said, I am confident that there will be people with not dissimilar circumstance / experiences who will be able to.
Do take good care of yourself and do let us know how things go
Kind regards
Mike

Hi @ELGall1996, I’m sorry you had such a difficult first infusion. That must have been really frightening to experience, but I’m glad that you’re feeling better now.
I’ve had a look around the forum for some previous topics related to starting Obinutuzumab, such as this one and this one (you can also look for simliar by using the ‘Related’ feature at the bottom of the thread). It seems like a few people have experienced reactions and had to have some pre-treatment such as antihistamines and steroids, so please do talk so they can plan how to manage your next treatment.
We do have some general information about obinutuzumab as a treatment option for Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and some side effect advice here:
Our Support Services team is also there if you need someone to talk to. You can call them on 0808 2080 888 or email support@bloodcancer.org.uk.
Take care, and please do keep us posted on how you get on.

Thank you for your advice. I’ll have a look and see what other people’s experiences have been. I suppose it’s just getting used to a new routine for a while. It’s certainly been a tough week!

Thank you. After 5 years of monitoring it has been difficult starting treatment. I’ve been in hospital all week, had a blood transfusion and now having anti biotics for an infection.
Trying to stay positive though!

Hi there. Thank you for asking about me. Still in hospital. First week has been difficult. On anti biotic drips for 5 days and they might delay my next dose of obinutuzumab as I’ve got an infection. But feeling ok generally. Being looked after etc and planning for nice things in the spring hopefully
