Getting my head around living with CML longer term

Hi everyone,

I have recently been diagnosed with Chronic myeloid leukaemia and am about to start Imatinib imminently. While I feel like I am doing well at keeping my positivity for this fight ahead, and I am focussing on what I can influence (health/ diet/ exercise/ mindfulness) the one thing that I can’t seem to get my head around is what my longer term future life looks like.
It seems so banal to ask this question but my husband and I had been so focussed on retiring in a couple of years and following our passion for travel and adventure and now I feel like that these future plans are at risk.

So my question is for those of you who have been living with Chronic myeloid leukaemia for a while, are you still able to travel freely? Does travel insurance just become prohibitive cost wise? Are there any limitations to how you can travel? I am of course assuming that I will be in a stable position medically by that point. I would not travel if it wasn’t under control.

Thanks in advance

@Jenhamm Hi. I can confirm that once the Chronic myeloid leukaemia is under control you will be able to live a normal life. I was diagnosed in 2003 and have had many adventures since. I haven’t had any trouble with travel insurance and it hasn’t been excessive in cost. I would suggest you live life to the full

xx
