Has Anyone Here Had DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction After Cancer Treatment?

I was hoping to hear from anyone who has undergone DIEP flap breast reconstruction surgery ( Txdiepflap )following cancer treatment.

I’m interested in learning about the recovery process and what to expect in the weeks and months after surgery. I’ve read quite a bit about the procedure, but hearing real experiences from people who have been through it would be incredibly helpful.

Some questions I have are:

  1. How long did it take before you felt like yourself again?
  2. What was the most challenging part of recovery?
  3. How did you manage fatigue and discomfort?
  4. Were there any unexpected issues or complications?
  5. Is there anything you wish you had known before the surgery?

If you’re comfortable sharing your experience, I’d really appreciate any advice or insights.

Thank you, and wishing everyone the very best with their treatment and recovery journeys.

Hi @tydclint, welcome to the Forum.

This is a really specific area and I honestly don’t know how many of our members will have been through DIEP flap reconstruction. I think you might find more people who’ve been through it over on the Breast Cancer Now community forum - they have several active threads specifically about DIEP flap recovery and the kind of practical, day-to-day experiences you’re asking about.

I’m not certain if you are affected by blood cancer, but that’s the focus of this forum. If you are, and you’d like to talk to someone, our Support Line is there - 0808 2080 888 or support@bloodcancer.org.uk.

Wishing you all the best,

Ceri
