Hi all…
I’ve had a search through the forum here and haven’t found anything which directly corresponds with the following. However it’s quite possible that the topic has been addressed before - possibly many times!; there’s such a large amount of material in the forum that it’s hard to pinpoint specifics sometimes.
I’m currently taking 5000mg of hyrdoxycarbamide per week. (One capsule Monday-Thursday; two capsules Friday to Sunday.) On the two occasions in the past where my dosage was increased, it took a few weeks for my body to adjust and immediately afterwards I often felt a little nauseous.
Now that my dosage has stabilised, I’m noticing that quite often in the mornings I feel quite queasy. Not to the point of actually being sick. But a low-level, nagging feeling of mild nausea. I’m sure that we will all appreciate that nausea - even if very mild - is a feeling which is very hard to ignore.
I’ve suffered with anxiety and depression in the past and the feeling is very similar to the feelings of nausea which I used to experience when I felt particularly anxious. (However this time around, it’s not a case of anxiety; I don’t feel remotely anxious at the moment.)
Just to be clear, the sensation is tolerable and a nuisance rather than a major concern. If needs be, I can get on with whatever I need to do. It’s certainly not sufficiently troublesome that I feel I need to take anti-nausea medication.
My strategy for dealing with the sensations is to switch off as far as possible. A bit of gardening, listening to some music, playing some music, reading, whatever… anything to allow myself to be absorbed and to help ride the wave of nausea until it fizzles out.
Which it tends to do - most days! - by mid-morning. From late morning through to bedtime, I’m very rarely troubled by these sensations. (Hence my rather tongue-in-cheek title of “morning sickness”.)
I’m not absolutely sure that such feelings are a side effect of hydroxycarbamide. But prior to starting treatment, I didn’t feel troubled ny morning sickness. So it may be a coincidence - but I doubt it… (My partner has coined the word “chemover” - i.e. chemo-hangover - to describe my morning queasiness. )
Anyone else experience a similar pattern of mild nausea? How do you manage the nuisance?
Hope everyone is feeling well - or as well as can be expected.
