Itching cured

I have been diagnosed as having Polycythaemia Vera and JAK2, after suffering severe itching for 6 years. I was sent to two dermatologists and was told it was a result of trauma which I knew was not the case. It was only when I discovered by chance that my blood pressure had rocketed after being permanently low all my life that I contacted my GP, who did blood tests. When the results came back confirming Polycythaemia vera ('PV') and JAK2, I was fast-tracked to see a haematologist who put me on Hydroxycarbamide and other medication at the cancer. I had several venesections and my platelets reduced but the itching continued. Having scoured forums concerning my symptoms I came to the conclusion that the only way to stop the itching was to change to Ruxolitinib and at my 3 month checkup I requested a change of treatment which was approved. Amazingly after just two days of taking the Jakavi, the itching has gone!!! Unless you have experienced itching like I had, you cannot know what a relief this is, and I feel I have my life back at last!! So, to anyone who suffers as I did, there is relief for you. I am now having wonderful care by the cancer centre, and all the fantastic cancer nurses, and cannot praise the NHS enough.

That’s great news @slinkett

I was on Ruxolitinib for about 16 months and I don’t recall having any issues with itching.

Delighted to read that you are receiving wonderful care from your cancer centre and all the cancer nurses.

Like you I have nothing but gratitude for the NHS.

Great to hear

I’ve been on ruxolitinib for 2 years now and I can’t remember the last time itching was a thing

It’s worth noting to others reading this, is ruxolitinib is generally advise if you have been on hydroxy and struggled with it
