MDS Diagnosis - bone marrow failure - genetic?

Hi there,

Does anyone have any experience of undergoing a stem cell transplant for Myelodysplastic syndrome ('MDS')/hypoplastic Myelodysplastic syndrome ('MDS') that looks as if it has a genetic component (but this component has not yet been discovered despite genetic testing)?

I know that the stem cell conditioning usually has to be quite different because of the toxicity of the chemo for those with genetic disease components. Stats are so grim and I was wondering if anyone had any real life insight please.

Many thanks

Hi @Tiana, welcome to the Forum, though I’m sorry for the circumstances that bring you here.

I’m hoping some of our members with experience of the Myelodysplastic syndrome ('MDS') transplant journey will see your post. There’s a thread on RIC transplants for MDS which might be worth a look in the meantime, and it’s also worth browsing the ‘Related’ topics at the bottom of your post as there are a few other Myelodysplastic syndrome ('MDS') threads there that may have relevant experiences.

Our Support Services team are there if you need someone to talk things through with, and you can call us free on 0808 2080 888 (option 1) or support@bloodcancer.org.uk

Take care,
