Hi,
I was diagnosed with Chronic myeloid leukaemia in 2020 when I was 42.
I take Imatinib and I’m fortunate enough that it has been a successful treatment for me and I have been in MMR for several years now.
I have rarely missed a dose in 5 years.
However I have come away for a break and forgotten my medication. I will be away for 5 days.
My question is: is missing 5 doses something to worry about or can I just put it right by getting straight back on the meds when I’m back?
And advice or experience gratefully received.
And look after yourselves.

Hello @BlueBoar
Thank you so much for posting and I am so glad to hear your Imatinib treatment is going so well.
As you don’t have your medication with you I would recommend that you contact your Haematology team and let them so they can make a plan. It is important to inform them.
As you are in a Major Molecular Response (MMR) and have been for some years I would not worry but important to speak to a member if the Haematology team for their reassurance and guidance.
Our colleagues at Macmillan have information around missed doses here: Imatinib | Macmillan Cancer Support, they say:
If you forget to take imatinib, you should take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your usual schedule and let your doctor or nurse know. Do not take a double dose unless your doctor tells you to.
Hope that you get to enjoy your break away.
I am here today and tomorrow from 10am to 1pm today and tomorrow if needed (0808 208 0888 option 1)
Best wishes
Gemma

Hi @BlueBoar I have taken breaks in medication for operations in agreement with my consultant so I wouldn’t expect there to be a big problem with a 5 day break. Sounds like you are doing really well.
Sorry i have taken so long to reply i didn’t see the post
All the best
