MPN and lymphoma

Back in Feb 2021, I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Went through 8 weeks of chemo treatment and no sign of a relapse to date, but
at my last routine visit the consultant said I have MPN (Myeloproliferative neoplasms), white blood cells problem and put me on law dose, 5 capsules of Hydroxycarbamide a week and aspirin for life :frowning:
The consultant said this has nothing to do with my lymphoma and not related.
Just wondering if anybody else has had these 2 problems one after another .
Thank you.

Hello @Saeed-Rohani. Welcome to the forum, and firstly, congratulations on being clear of the lymphoma - that’s wonderful news that there’s been no sign of relapse since 2021.

I can imagine it must have been quite a shock to receive this new diagnosis, especially when you thought you were just coming for routine follow-up. I hope it’s helpful to know that although it is classified as a blood cancer, many people with MPNs feel well and manage their condition without it significantly affecting everyday life.

In terms of your question about whether others have had both conditions - hopefully some fellow forum members with similar experiences might see this and share their own insight. You can also use the ‘Related’ function at the bottom of this page to see other forum threads that might be similar to this one.

It might be worth asking your consultant at your next appointment if you could have a bit more information about your specific type of MPN (Myeloproliferative neoplasms) and what to expect with the treatment you’re on. Sometimes these follow-up appointments can feel quite brief, and it’s easy to leave with questions you wish you’d asked. Once you’ve got some further information from your consultant, you might also find it helpful to read more about MPNs on our website.

If you’d like to talk any of this through in more detail, our Support Line has (very friendly!) specialist nurses who can help you understand MPNs better and help answer any lingering questions or worries you might understandably have, or in fact help you prepare questions for your next appointment. You can reach them on 0808 2080 888 or support@bloodcancer.org.uk.

Take care, and please do keep us updated with how you’re doing,
