@Lyndam I think that’s a good call asking the hospital staff to have a BMB too! Wishing you a lovely wkd. Take care
@sisi. Thank you for your kind words. I would love to put my feet up, but osteoarthritis in the spine causes problems when I put the recliner up on my chair, which I did a few days ago and fell asleep, which has caused my legs to play up. Hope you and hubby have a good weekend, you deserve it after all you have been through.
@ChrissyD. The blackberry ice cream sounds lovely.
@erica. That sounds bliss Erica with this hot weather, I cant wait for it to cool down. Im not one for sitting in the garden, although we have a lovely garden. Think I inherited that from my mum as she never liked sitting outside. Have a good weekend.
Confession time @Sisi we have a Magnum (other makes are available) every evening after our meal. Yours arrived just in time, thanks so much it was yummy.
@Lyndam Oh gosh that does sound painful! Thankyou for your kind words, you have a good weekend too
@Erica A pleasure! Do you have the same flavour every evening or do you mix it up a bit? I love the almond ones!
Hi @Sisi whichever are on offer, I like them all !!
However my favourite are the Utopia Double Cherry ones and the Double Gold Caramel Billionaire ones, I like to make a mess.
@Erica Oooh… I’ve not had either of those!
I need to up my game I think

Hi everyone, update on sprained ankle. The injury is much better have returned to exercise bike and started ankle exercises. Unfortunately my calf swelling only resolves with elevation and is still slightly red. GP. said sprain so severe it could take several months.! Some time ago I questioned why my cholesterol was so low and why I am still prescribed statins. Found some answers. Statins apparently can help in the treatment of certain cancers, and low cholesterol levels are a symptom of many types of cancer. What a complicated problem leukemia is. Seems a double diagnosis, 1, very low cholesterol could indicate active cancer, 2, very low cholesterol is less food for the cancer development. Perhaps I have misunderstood the explanations. I know that sugar is fuel for cancer but cholesterol that’s a new one for me.
The more questions I ask the more confused I get.
All the best to everyone unclejack.
Hi @Unclejack
Good to hear you have some improvement in your sprained ankle. These things take longer to heal as we get older, I find! I certainly don’t bounce back quickly like I used to - I was very rarely ill or off work - until I got the Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) kicking off in such a rare and scary way!
Hopefully your return to exercising will strengthen everything and hasten more healing.
Presumably if you came off the statins, your cholesterol would get higher? Would you want that to happen? Or just curious? Doctors are usually loath to take people off medication once you’ve started. It’s certainly very difficult for us lay people to weigh up what appears sometimes to be conflicting information/evidence. The now universal use of statins has certainly been a massive cash cow for pharma companies but some of the initial research and subsequent massive PR drive by “Big Pharma” to widen the eligibility for the drugs has been criticised. It’s very difficult these days to know who to trust, especially when there are vested/commercial interests at stake. Good luck with trying to unravel it all!
Hey @Unclejack and all, very personally you have just re-enforced to me the dangers of reading too much on the internet, I reckon there is a lot of conflicting, occasionally unreliable, information out there.
I think that you can get stats and data to prove anything.
This is not a medical opinion and everything in moderation but great news that you are back to exercising.
Keep posting, look after yourself and low and steady wins the race.
Hi @Unclejack Good to hear from you & glad to hear you are making good progress with your ankle & calf All be it probably slower than you want! Over the years I have badly sprained both of mine, luckily not at the same time! They did take some while to get their strength back. And I would always go out with an ankle support in my bag if I wasn’t wearing one! Interesting about the statins info
Sending love & best wishes to you
Hello, my oh was diagnosed last spring and after a horrible summer and autumn is doing better now, his platelets have massively improved and are now normal and the nose bleeds have stopped. He hasn’t needed a platelet transfusion since December, He’s about to start round 16 of Azacitidine. He is however still walking around with his head in the clouds regarding a Stem cell transplant. I can see that he just wants to stay on chemotherapy for as long as possible but I worry that if he leaves it too long and his health deteriorates the implications for his longer term could be very bad.
Hello @Hellodolly So good to hear from you!
I think we chatted briefly at the end of last year. Pleased to hear your OH nosebleeds have stopped & that he hasn’t had to have any more transfusions. Encouraging to hear he’s on round 16 of Azacitadine. I hope he’s been tolerating it ok? Best wishes to you
@Sisi @Hellodolly .
Hi Sisi, and hello Dolly,
Apologies Dolly for moaning about my sprained ankle. Your husband’s experience brings reality back to me. I have had Chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML) since February 2022. And honestly if it wasn’t for the regular blood tests wouldn’t have realised there was anything wrong. I have my next consultation Friday this week fingers crossed!! Your experience makes me realise how lucky I have been. Wishing you both well bestwishes unclejack.
