Hi everyone, i’ve posted a few times before with different subject matter and unfortunately had some devastating news this week. I was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukaemia ('Acute myeloid leukaemia ('Acute myeloid leukaemia ('AML')')') in Dec 2024 and spent most of 2025 in and out of Hospital having treatment before a relapse in July 2025 then a stem cell transplant in Oct 2025. I recovered fairly quickly and was back at work and living a normal life. Bloods all good and considered normal then had a phonecall out of the blue this Monday saying that there were some suspicious looking cells on the slide. Bone marrow biopsy on Tues confirmed 50% blasts and I was told there’s no more treatment I can have for Acute myeloid leukaemia ('AML'). However, the cells may have changed to ALL so another bone marrow with bone and won’t know the results for 2 weeks. If ALL then potentially an immunotherapy option but will be a long 2 weeks and trying not to think of the worst ![]()
Hi @Debcosgriff
I’m so sorry to read you have had a relapse.
It must be devastating news having done so well after transplant.
I’m sure that it will feel a long couple of weeks while you learn next steps.
I had an allogenic bone marrow transplant April 2025 so just passed one year mark.
Even now I just take things a day at a time as I know dealing with blood cancer is a rollercoaster.
My primary diagnosis was Myelofibrosis which progressed to Acute myeloid leukaemia ('AML')
Hopefully lots of support around you and you will know how supportive everyone is here on the forum
Take care
Thanks Duncan,
This week has been a rollercoaster and we’re still trying to come to terms with things. It seems bizarre that we’re hoping for another type of Leukemia so there’s a chance of some treatment. I can’t get my head around the fact there are no more options for Acute myeloid leukaemia ('AML').
I’m pleased to hear that you’re still doing well 1 year post transplant! ![]()
I’m really sorry to hear this @Debcosgriff
That must have been really hard to hear and I can only imagine how difficult it must be even trying to process what you have been told.
I know the two weeks will seem like forever and we all know that waiting is one of the hardest parts of the diagnosis and journey.
Please use the forum for support. Sending lots of love x
Thank you Nichola,
Just keeping everything crossed and hoping there’s an option and I feel well for as long as possible!
Thanks @Debcosgriff
Understand your thinking entirely.
Think its clinging on to any glimmer of hope that keeps us going
Take care
Hi Duncan,
I agree ![]()
Hello @Debcosgriff
We are so sorry to hear about your recent results and can only imagine how difficult this time must be.
I can see Duncan & Nichola have posted some really helpful comments, but I just wanted to let you know that if you wished to talk through any of this you can get in touch on 0808 2080 888.
We can imagine waiting for further results is very overwhelming and we hope that you have support of family and friends you can talk to during this time. Please do take care and try to do little things to help with your well-being each day, this can just be something small like having a cup of tea with a friend, reading a book or watching your favourite series on TV. We have more suggestions on our page Blood cancer: mind and emotions | Blood Cancer UK in case this is useful at all.
Please keep us updated.
Warmest wishes,
Emma (support services nurse)
