So I 'm 31 and was randomly diagnosed with “mild” Essential thrombocythemia (ET) (600ish, just on daily aspirin) in January, but over the last year and a half, I have noticed that I’ve been getting sick more and not bouncing back as quickly. I got a chest infection for the first time ever and first ever case of hives last summer. Also, being tired all the time and getting numbness in my right hand. However, the Haematologist told me that since im only around 600 none of this is because Essential thrombocythemia (ET). She said its mild so my immune system isn’t compromised. I’m kind of at a loss because I know something is off but does it really have nothing to do with Essential thrombocythemia (ET)?

I’m so sorry to learn about your circumstance, and I can sense that you are concerned about your health and what’s happening.

Hello @SharRae
Thank you for your post.
We are sorry to hear about your diagnosis of Essential thrombocythemia (ET) and that you are having some symptoms.
We can imagine this is frustrating for you.
As @GenesisDevice has mentioned we would advise to update your team on how you are feeling so that they can support you as best they can. If they do not think this is related to your Essential thrombocythemia (ET) you will likely still need investigation/ assessment as to why you are experiencing these symptoms.
We would recommend explaining to your haematologist or clinical nurse specialist your concerns. It may also be useful to make an appt with your GP to tell them of your symptoms too.
We have a page on Symptoms of essential thrombocythaemia (ET) | Blood Cancer UK that may be useful to read through or go through with your team.
If you would like to talk any of this through with one of our nurses, please get in touch on 0808 2080 888.
Take care & warm wishes,
Emma (support services nurse)
