Travel with thrombocytocaemia

Hello we are due to travel in February for a family wedding in Dubai, I am buying my husband compressed stocking is there any other precautions we need to take. He will have his medications plus aspirin.

Hi @Kitts.

A wedding in Dubai - that sounds amazing!

Have you been able to speak to your husbands medical team? I know others can share experiences but I would say that they were the best ones to speak to to make sure your mind is at rest whilst travelling.

Here are some helpful tips alongside speaking to the medical team.

Insurance is also really important so I’ve included a couple of links below with some info. There are lots of conversations around insurance as well which talk about different insurance companies.

I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Hi Nicole

Thank you, yes have checked with the medical team, I am looking at insurance ASAP. We both are going through a very difficult process due to the diagnosis and I am also feeling very overwhelmed and anxious, we think the break might do us both good.

I’m sorry you are going through a tough time. Yes - a little bit of time away may be just what you need.

There were some really good tips in the links I sent and I hope others will also share their experiences with you.

Is it a recent diagnosis? We all understand how difficult it is following a diagnosis so please feel free to share as much or as little as you want to. It’s always good to have others that understand x

Hi he was diagnosed in January it was really a shock, never been ill in his life, never went to the doctors, only when he had a chest infection they noticed the high platelet count then did the bone marrow biopsy which confirmed it. Blood test have been erratic at times, they keep on changing the dosage of hydroxyurea, was being seen monthly but now we are having to chase them for appointments, Blood tests etc.

I am also in process of loosing my job. It’s all crazy putting atoll on our marriage, that’s why going away to try and clear our heads and think things through.:persevering_face::persevering_face::persevering_face:

Gosh - that’s a lot to happen in a short space of time and it’s no wonder it’s all taken its toll on you both.

The diagnosis is so hard, especially when your husband has been feeling so well. It must have been such a shock! There are so many tests and different things going on that sometimes you feel like you’re in a whole different world all of a sudden.

I’m sorry you are having to chase results. That just adds to the stress of it all and is not what you need.

I hope the holiday gives you time to just enjoy each others company. You can then come back and do what you need to do.

Please remember we are here for you. We all understand what you are going through.

I’ve copied the link to the helpline in case you ever need it.

Take good care of yourself and keep us updated on how you are getting in X
