May I ask if this vegan haggis recipe sounds like it has the right herbs and spices @DuncanB, it’s at least made by a Scot! Ultimate Vegan Haggis (Scottish Recipe) - The Pesky Vegan
Hi @Duncan
I usually buy my haggis directly from the butcher rather than do the work myself.
The recipe you share definitely worth a try and looks good.
Don’t expect you can go too far wrong and I guess it’s a case of adjusting the spice level as you need.
With you being pretty much Vegan have you checked out Veganuary Website?
Oh this is great @DuncanB, I didn’t know there was a whole website for Veganuary! Thank you for this, I know I’ll find many new ideas.
I’m an old-school lentils and soya mince-type of vegan from the 90s who strayed for a while—hard not to when faced with delicious foods whilst travelling and unable to explain veganism! Although some of the weirdest things I’ve eaten are actually vegan, like natto.
I love that Veganuary exists now, I imagine it helps many people try out more plant-based foods. Every month is Veganuary for me—I like to try veganising recipes that are definitely full of animal products, for example lasagne, and now haggis ![]()
There’s some great recipes on the Veganuary site for sure @Duncan
There’s even a Shepherds Pie that’s made with lentils although wouldn’t be surprised if this is something you already make
@Duncan we visited Death Valley in mid April, it was very hot even then. Accommodation options are limited and we stayed in Furnace Creek Ranch for 2 nights. All of the places we went were easily assecable by road, Zabriske Point, Dante’s View, Badwater Basin (my favourite), Devil’s Golf Course, Artists Drive, Mosaic Canyon and Twenty Mile Canyon.
Oh yes isn’t Badwater Basin the lowest place in the US, and so close to the highest up Mount Whitney! It’s on our list, thank you for those other recommendations @Jonpd, I’ll look them up. Zabriskie Point sounds amazing. Think we’ll head up to Mammoth Lakes and then over to Truckee (my favourite mountain town). I’ve wanted to visit this little ghost mining town called Bodie near there but never quite made it that far, maybe this time. Thinking about trips like this keeps me motivated!
I wear a garmin watch which tracks heart rate, steps and sleep. I’m also doing the NHS couch to 5k. Currently on week 6.
The watch trackers are brilliant @Hughbie
Great news you’re on week 6 of couch to 5k
Definitely gives you a focus.
I found the Blood Cancer Workout routines great to get back to exercise and still do the 10 minute cardio video most days.
Link is below just in case you haven’t seen it
Thanks Duncan, good stuff. I made a decision at diagnosis to carry on as close to normal as I could. But ive done better than that as I started running again and also improved my diet.
As for the things I track
Resting heart rate
Sleep
Steps and distance covered on foot
The aim of doing couch to 5k us to get back to doing weekly parkruns which I used to enjoy a few years ago.
Im fortunate at the moment in that my symptoms are fairly minor so nothing to prevent me doing these things which in turn help my mental well being too.
I also walk a lot and will be doing part of the camino del norte in northern Spain in August
That’s great to hear @Hughbie
Keeping as much of your routine as you can makes a big difference.
Monitoring steps and sleep important too. Also tracking my weight.
