What do you track to keep you motivated?

Hello @Duncan, I’m doing ok thanks, although currently nursing a cold. Seem to get everything going! I have my first appointment with an NHS haematologist next week so hoping to have a plan in place after that for appointments and blood lettings. Is all a bit unknown/vague at the moment.

The tracker rings sound good, although a bit pricey. Might wait to see if they come down in price like the watches have.

Ooh forgot to reply about biscuits, which is very out of character of me! They sound delicious @Duncan . Do you have a recipe you would like to share? I’m sure homemade are healthier than shop-bought right?

I am an also an accountant and like data and analysis.

I am on the Myeloproliferative neoplasms ('MPN') Voice study which has 2 parts:

An app to allow you to record your symptoms using the MPN10 symptoms

A Withings smart watch which records steps, heart rate, sleep data and other health data.

@Duncan I spent an enjoyable day in the Joshua Tree national park on a SoCal road trip a few years ago.

Good to hear @Barry1

Food tracking important as easy to have a week when don’t quite put enough calories.

I remember Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Haematology Clinic suggesting Homemade Rice Pudding which I made several times.

Some nutmeg on top and you get a nice skin on top

McVities Digestive Biscuits are something I eat most days @Duncan

Nice with a bit of cheese on top.

My wife also makes her own Grenola Cookies and Trail Mix Energy Bars.

That said I enjoy home baking too.

Oh my @DuncanB I miss oaty biscuits even like basic Hobnobs, they’re just not a thing here. Same as oat cakes. I really love granola too but refuse to buy it as it’s so expensive so I just make my own haha

Oh that’s so cool @Jonpd, glad you enjoyed it too. The landscape around Joshua Tree is so otherworldly to me, really stunning open deserts and those craggy peaks dotted about, and of course all those Joshua trees! They must have been an influence on Dr Seuss, I now realise. I’m really looking forward to returning and exploring a bit further, maybe up to Death Valley :desert:

Just to add, I know what you mean about awaiting a treatment plan @Barry1, not long to wait now though. I’d say keep note of the sorts of questions that I imagine have been crossing your mind, your haematologist should be able to answer.

Totally agree about the Oura ring, I got it on sale! It feels like it’s paid for itself in how my health has improved since using it, like my sleep or simply moving more often—don’t know about you but I can tend to get absorbed in reading and then hours have passed without my moving! Having a dog helps with not sitting about too.

I hope that cold passes soon, I always indulge in loads of herbal cough sweets when I’ve got a sniffle these days!

Yes have a brother in law and sister in law in USA @Duncan and I know if they buy things like Digestive Biscuits and Porridge when over it costs a fortune.

Hi @Duncan

If you’re up for doing your own baking or have someone else who enjoys baking worth checking out Scottish Scran website where have lots of oat based recipes

@DuncanB they definitely benefit from tracking, when I’m a couple days behind my brain gets well chaotic and all out of sync, I would of loved that tracker, but I was diagnosed 4 years ago and already have my own tracking system in place, like I said I love a spreadsheet haha

@Bearnasty glad you have your own tracking in place.

Think our body is great at letting us know when we might need to do something or even just relax and recover.

Hopefully doing as well as you can so far into your diagnosis

To all you Trackers out there. I originally used to track my blood test results on graph paper till it got unwieldly and the pages were joined together with sellotape!!

Wow that’s dedication @Erica! Perhaps quite a bittersweet memento now as well? I’ve got my NHS records printed out and seeing years of my health summed up in various doctor’s notes is so odd, almost as if it’s trivialised? So many errors too, which are years out of date and can’t be corrected of course!

Ha yes @DuncanB I usually ask loved ones visiting to bring Marmite and Eleven O’Clock Rooibosch teabags! Thank you so much for that Scottish recipe site, I’m already tempted to try to veganise those Haggis sausage rolls somehow!

Very cool that you’ve been to Death Valley too @Jonpd, I think my timing has always been a bit off for tolerating the heat there whilst being in an adequately air-conditioned car! For this road trip I think we’ll rent an AWD as our little scrappy box on wheels can barely manage the hills here, let alone the Sierras! If you have any road trip locations you’d recommend I’m all ears :desert::snow_capped_mountain::evergreen_tree:
