As a vulnerable person I have taken to going to my small Catholic church once a week since mid-August and with all the things in place I feel it is the safest place outside my home. My parish priest had even started bringing in measures before lockdown, and has even spoken to people if they don’t sit in the right place. No chance of standards slipping there…unlike in the supermarket
Oh, I know what you mean. I went to my local supermarket 2 weeks ago and left in tears as nobody followed any kind of social distance or face masks. Yes, we were brought the measures in before the full lockdown and after reopening even tougher measures.
@Erica it’s completely mystery why this is on the guidance, when there’s not a word about the shielded community from the NHS etc, although the cases are as high as they were in May/June! Added concern here up north where the ocal lockdown has been in place since July and still cases are going up…
I don’t think it helps that the advice is different depending on where you live. It gets very confusing keeping up with it all and trying to work out which bits apply to you! On the work front I staffed the first 3 hour slot of the book collection service on Friday but nobody turned up! Later this week we’ll be letting students back in for the first time and that will be the real test of how rigorous our protection measures are.
@Franko it’s so understandable to find this confusing, especially given the ongoing uncertainty of the overall situation. We always encourage people to check in on the local authority website of where they live and work for local information. And we were wondering if this has been helpful to you @Franko?
It also sounds like you understandably have a lot on your mind regarding work and your students returning- which is only natural! how are you feeling now?
A little update on my ill health retirement progress .
Eventually after almost two months my manager dropped off the application form. He has to fill in the form, then myself ,then my occupational health doctor .on reading it and taking advice from a union official it seems he hadn’t followed the correct procedures i.e. did not contact Human Resources regarding possible redeployment. So I contacted them and they were very helpful and are going to try a find me some sort of redeployment working from the safety of my home. I will keep you posted x
Gosh, @parkrunmark, the saga goes on, it really is a situation that you have to keep on and on, it must be so wearing for you emotionally, physically and practically. Redeployment working from home sounds great. Yes, please keep us posted and take care.
Hi @parkrunmark, it’s good to hear from you! So glad this is some way towards being sorted. Isnt it terrible that these things aren’t done following the proper procedures. Fingers crossed its all on the right track now. Keep us updated! X
Good morning all
I had a meeting yesterday with HR and my manager to discuss my options . I was very anxious beforehand but all went really well and I am to be redeployed and working from home . A very positive result as I have always felt returning to work is part of the journey of beating my illness.
Thank you for listening and your kind comments
Mark
Oh, @parkrunmark, that really was a result and we look forward to hearing how the new job works out. Take care and good luck.
Brilliant to hear Mark!
H hi I @parkrunmark, how has it been working from home? I must say, as much as I enjoy getting out and about I feel safer at home! I’m back at work but as much as they have things in place I still feel that my risk is heightened.
Hi Nichola
Well they haven’t found me any work yet, only a job in a nhs call centre which I obviously refused. May hear something this week but if not I am quite happy at home . Hopefully if I get the vaccine soon I can then return to my normal place of work
Hi @parkrunmark, good to hear from you, are you managing to get out for a socially distanced park run on your own at all?
Hi Erica
Yes I am managing a slow 5 k about twice a week. We do miss our weekly parkrun which was such a lovely social meeting point.Hopefully it will return late spring or early summer. Exercise has definitely helped my recovery physically and mentally.
Everything crossed that we can all get back to some kind of normality soon! Keep us updated on the job front. It must be very frustrating!
Hi @parkrunmark, I definitely agree that exercise does help recovery physically and mentally, also I am a great believer in fresh air. I am a walker and I have pulled a ham string and really feel restricted to our flat at the moment.
Does anyone else find exercise is helping them during getting back to work or perhaps when you haven’t got work?
Oh no @Erica. Hopefully you can get out and about soon? X
