I am 26 and female. I have been generally unwell for around 6 months now. No family history as I am adopted. I went to the GP in January due to persistent un explain bruising, some blood spots and chronic fatigue. I figured I had a deficiency due to poor appetite and weight loss of nearly 4 stone and had full CBC, thyroid, B12, Folate etc all done to check. B12 and Folate came back very low. I had my B12 treatment and on folate tablets still. Anyway, the last few weeks i seem to be getting more and more symptoms and I am losing control over my body and I am very worried. I will list them below, my new GP surgery seem to pass me from pillar to post and I was told today by another practice member, ‘i dont really know why you’re here, your bloods are fine… they have done the necessary investigations and it was just your B12 ane Folate that aas concerning which has/is being treated’ i feel so dismissed, low and fed up. I feel like its really impacting my quality of life and I just want to get better but all i keep hearing is ‘but your bloods are fine’. Can it be missed? Can it develop since 9/10 weeks ago? Am i just going crazy? Is there other tests I should ask for? What do I do because right now all I have done is cried over not being heard and being treated like im faking it because ‘your bloods are fine’ could it be anything else?? Im so stuck. I just need some advice, help or something I can throw back at them. I hate feeling like this, its really affecting me now.
Symptoms-
Chronic fatigue
Random fevers/chills then fine the next day
Night sweats
Feeling cold all the time - freezing hands and feet
Easy bruising with no reason
Itchy legs / skin
Chronic neck and shoulder pain
Headache/migraine
Swollen stomach/bloating
Feeling sick
Lack of appetite and weight loss
Red dots/blood spots all around my body
Huge spots/increased cystic spots that I have never had before and do not heal
Cuts take long to heal
Shortness of breath
Aching joints
Feeling unwell 1 minute and fine the next
Skin rashes and broken skin on hands from no where with no reason
General weakness/no strength
Hearing loss/ear pain/pressure
Some of these probably are other conditions i am being investigated for (endometriosis etc) but it all seems to be a lot especially developing as rapidly as they are and getting worse. Ive missed a lot of university recently and time off work. I just feel so unwell and not ok.
Hi @Keesutts - sounds like you’re going through a pretty bad time atm and with those symptoms something is obviously not right! When you say you’ve had a full blood test did that include white blood cell , neutrophil, platelets, HB etc etc?
I got told by my GP that she didn’t see anything wrong with my blood results even though I, as an old nurse, could see they weren’t right! In the end I referred myself to a private haematologist, once I was diagnosed he filtered me back into the NHS for my treatment.
I do hope you manage to get it sorted- once you get a diagnosis you can move on, or that’s how I felt but we’re all different!
Thank you Gilly, its just tiring. Im so knackered all the time and then trying to fight this on top.
The outcome was ‘I will discuss your wide range of symptoms at our full GP meeting tomorrow and see what they suggest as I don’t know what to do with you’.
I will see what private consultants are ariund here.
Hi @Keesutts welcome to our forum.
Having read your second post as well here it sounds as if the outcome you had today is a really positive way forward with your case being discussed at your full GP’s meeting.
It is so difficult with such generic symptoms and we are all so complex unique individuals and all tests are to rule conditions in or out.
You also have the option of a private consultation after that.
You have a good list of your symptoms, perhaps also write a potted medical history and family history so you cover everything you need to at your appointment.
Please do let us know how you get on and perhaps be pleasantly assertive.
Be kind to yourself and really look after yourself.
Hi @Keesutts - I’m assuming the full GP discussion group is within your practice and that you won’t be there? As @Erica said at least they are taking it seriously in wanting to discuss it further.
I do hope a plan is formulated to go forwards, wishing you lots of luck
I am sorry to hear you have been feeling so awful recently. It is understandable that you are worried and not ok.
Given you have posted here, I suspect that you are worried about blood cancer and in view of your symptoms including fatigue, night sweats and weight loss, I would suggest that you go back to your doctor for further investigations if there is no outcome from the meeting today. Could you bring someone with you for extra support or request to see a different GP? I have enclosed a useful link here from our website on the signs and symptoms of Blood Cancer. It includes information on the questions to ask your doctor when you are worried and further tests that might need to be done. Have you had an scans or just blood tests so far? Blood Cancer Signs and Symptoms It is important to remember that most people who have symptoms described on this page won’t have blood cancer. But it’s important to find out what’s causing them especially as you are feeling unwell.
If it would be helpful to talk this through @keesutts please do not hesitant to give our nursing support line a call on 0808 2080 888
Take care and let us know how you get on.
Fiona (support services nurse)
Hi @Keesutts
If you haven’t been tested for Coeliac disease please get tested for it as a lot of your symptoms sound like this is what you might have. Don’t think they test routinely for this.
Please take care and hope you get this sorted.
