Beta 2 Microglobulin

I’m considering having a Beta 2 Microglobulin blood test done privately to try and help me understand how my Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) will behave in the future.

I have Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and I am on W&W for the last year. Diagnosed in June of 2023.

Is it worth having this test done. Are there others I could have done or is it not worth it for me at this stage of my Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL)

Thankyou.

Hi @Colette I have had Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) for 20 yrs and always been on watch and wait, I have been a very lucky girl.
When I was diagnosed the prognosis was 5-10 yrs.
I am not a medical person and others might have more experiences, but I have no knowledge of the test you are talking of.
My personal philosophy is that we only have the here and now and nobody knows what the future will bring. I certainly did not foresee having Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in the first place !!
Personally being on watch and wait the regular blood tests show me the fluctuation or progression of my Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and that is enough for me.
I don’t even think about treatments as the research and trials mean that treatments and the way they are administered are often changing.
I will copy your post to the Blood Cancer UK nurses @BloodCancerUK_Nurses just in case
I am assuming this is not a test the NHS provides, but it might be worth getting your specialist nurse, consultants or GP’s opinion. as they know you and your whole medical history.
Please do let us know how you get on. and what you decide.
Look after yourself and take care…

Hi Colette,
I hope you are keeping well? This may be something you wish to talk to your current treatment team about as they will be able to guide you and perhaps some of your questions around it.

As our webpage information states, 'Your hospital team may use this test to find out more about the stage of the CLL and your prognosis, or to monitor the progress of your treatment. This test is done using a blood sample and sometimes a urine sample '-Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) tests after diagnosis | Blood Cancer UK.
