Blood cancer stats

Hi all. Hope you are doing well at the start of 2025.

I was wondering if anyone is aware of where I can find stats in relation to new blood cancer diagnoses? I assume this information is somewhere I just don’t know where

Appreciate any help available.

Hey there @Conrossmac, happy new year to you too. How have you been getting on since diagnosis, fellow Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) survivor?

Here’s a great site showing statistics for our various blood cancers that I believe @Ali_BloodCancerUK kindly shared, but bear in mind it generalises: HMRN - Factsheets

Hi @Conrossmac I reckon that you might not be able to find any statistics and if you do they might be out of date.
The reason I say that is in this day and age patients are looked at as the unique, complex beings with unique family histories and if they need treatment the treatments are coming on line far more frequently and then are often tailored to the patents needs.
When I was diagnosed 21 yrs ago I found a statistic saying that I had a life expectancy of 5-10 yrs and I am still here.
Really look after yourself and perhaps ask your question of your specialist nurse, if you have one, or your medical team.
Please do keep posting how you are getting on

Thanks both. Is there not somewhere that says for example how many people were diagnosed per year?

Duncan that site looks great. I’m kind of looking for a top level figure per year

Thanks both. And I’m doing great thank you! Off to football now ( not the one where you use your hands Duncan!)

Enjoy your match, glad you’re doing so well @Conrossmac! I’m not sporty at all so it took me a moment to get your international reference :soccer:

In that link it says Essential thrombocythemia (ET) has an “annual incidence of 4.2 per 100,000 people, an estimated 2,720 people are newly diagnosed with essential thrombocythaemia each year in the UK.”

Hi @Conrossmac enjoy the footie, I would say that is just the diversion you might benefit from.
Perhaps when you come out afterwards just think about how you are thinking and feeling (whether your team wins or not!!)

Hi @Conrossmac

Are you looking for stats for blood cancer as a whole or does the link @Duncan has shared cover it? I’m wondering if there’s something specific you’re interested in finding out? Let me know and if I can find it, I’ll share.

Bests,
Ali

Hi Duncan. Yes it is good info. But I want to know it year on year to see what variances there have been over time. :+1:t2:

Thanks for responding. Hi Ali, I am looking for a yearly figure for blood cancer and if possible the sub categories to see how they have changed over time. The info must be somewhere.
