CMML - new diagnosis

You’re not the only person who has mentioned knowing of doctors and other healthcare professionals who left the NHS @ChrissyD, it’s such a pity it comes to that after training for so long and at such great expense.

Although I’m not a doctor I am trained in a different specialist healthcare profession which was unceremoniously almost entirely cut from NHS Trusts around the UK by the previous government, which contributed to me taking my training and self to a country that does value it.

Somewhat ironically I often read and hear about the lack of available mental healthcare around the UK and think to myself would I still struggle to find work. Too late now but it saddens me that it took the UK getting to the state it did before folks realised how our beloved NHS has been pruned into its barely recognisable current form :pensive:

Glad you’re able to access your own test results online though, doesn’t it make a big difference? My anxiety is far less severe in between tests and results now as I know I’ll be able to check them as soon as my doctors can. My monthly blood test results come back the same morning! Makes it easier to plan around any potential hospital appointments too.

I hope everyone in the UK gets to have some kind of secure accessible online place to look at test results, it’s so handy!

I bet you’ve seen and experienced a lot of changes with how your tests and treatments have changed since diagnosis, dear @Erica. Even the way they’re shared with us, now being online and more easily accessed. No longer just the domain of highfaluting doctors!

It’s hard to imagine not being able to check our own results now, like why wouldn’t we be able to?! It was our bodies that were tested after all, surely we should be able to compare and contrast this stuff!

I’m glad you can now though—hopefully it’s less confusing since we’re more able to check the numbers against clinical norms ourselves! Gives me hope that the NHS is modernising :computer::drop_of_blood::bar_chart:

Hi folks
Wow I was startled by the response to the way some people describe their experience dealing with cancer and the words used.Nevertheless a excellent debate. I very often remember the very young girl who was about to have her NHS treatment withdrawn as the situation was deemed hopeless. she said quote ’ I will die fighting to live ’ Anyway had my blood test results and haematology appointment on Friday. My results were Monocytes increased to 1.5, neutrophils climbed to nearly 2 and platelets fell very slightly. Haven’t got the other figures due to computer problems. I will get these when all this is sorted and my GP downloads. Consultant happy with my stable blood count. I haven’t actually had a face to face since last September and will have another telephone appointment in about 9 weeks. I think in my case telephone appointments are a sensible approach as things are stable thank god. I also mentioned the tooth extraction platelets problem. The doctor agreed that this needs to be carried out in hospital, the blood cancer UK nurse suggested this a couple of weeks ago. As concerns my test seems the hospital used the normal figures to work out my levels this time.
Hope everyone is ok
Very best wishes to all unclejack.

Hi @Unclejack I think so many people are terrified of dentists, it must be horrible for you.
For me it is when the pain and discomfort outweighs my anxiety…
Yep, normal services resuming here
Really look after yourself @Unclejack

Hi ,matilda , i nedd to know if he was blasts in peripheral blood or not because you said that he had no blasts , please
And i am sorry because i dont speak english very well

Hello, no blast.

To give some news almost one year after diagnosis, he had a second appointement last october after all bone marrow results.

Haematologist said he was low risk (what a relief), he has a immune thrombocytopenia and a igM kappa Monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance (MGUS) associated. Everything in watch and wait.

He had a new appointement few weeks a ago. Everything was ok, he is on watch and wait.

Thanks for your support.
Enjoy life !

Hi @Aun as I have just said in your other post knowing others blood test results does not help you as consultants do not look at results in isolation.

Thank you , I am very happy to him

Dear @Aun,
These questions need to be directed to your medical team as @Erica has suggested, they would be best placed to answer. Everyone’s experience with blood cancer will be different.
I have sent you a direct message offering some further support around how best to take these questions forward and you would be welcome to contact us on the details I have provided so we can talk in more detail.
Best Wishes,
