Essential Thrombocythemia

Hi

I was diagnosed with Essential Thrombocythemia about 4 years ago with Jak 2

Mine is watch and wait & I see my consultant every 6 months, I do suffer with fatigue but last 4 months I have been suffering with dizziness particularly of a night and wondered if anyone else suffers with this ?

Hi there @Wesleymag53,

Dizziness is definitely something that can happen with Essential thrombocythemia, and it’s listed as a symptom on our Essential Thrombocythaemia page (which you might find helpful).

It’s worth mentioning that you’re experiencing this (and that it’s particularly at night) to your haematologist, especially as you’ve been experiencing it for a few months now. Dizziness can often be managed by adjusting your treatment.

Some things that can help are staying well-hydrated (particularly important when your blood is thicker) and, as you’ve been doing, trying to spot triggers (e.g. some people notice it’s worse in the heat or when they’re particularly tired).

Whilst you’re waiting to hear from others in the community, have a look at the ‘related’ feature at the bottom of this thread - there might be some similar and helpful threads there.

Take care,

Hi,

I have Essential thrombocythemia ('ET') too and I’m recently diagnosed, I take an aspirin daily, I am often extremely fatigued after doing anything, I have a few dizzy moments. I also have an enlarged spleen it explains a lot now I have this diagnosis but I am still learning about it as thought some or most of my symptoms were perimenopause as they are the same but my platelets don’t lie. I am still trying to do things as normal but do find I get tired more easily so I am having to get used to taking care of myself rather than rushing around. I definitely need to discuss more at my next appointment. I think any changes you need to speak about them to a specialist.
