Tried staysure they wouldn’t do a quote with it being booked. Have decided not to bother this year with an overseas holiday and stay in this country. I am doing fine thank you.
I am also going on holiday to bulgaria, really scared about the 4hr. Flight but bought the socks and will wear my mask, i also am taking the covid tests with me. I have a house there so feel safer. Enjoy your holiday x
In case it’s useful for anyone going on holiday, we have some info on our webpage around Covid and travel -
If you are thinking of travelling away from home, do discuss this with your healthcare team or doctor first. Ask them:
- What do I need to think about before travelling?
- What should I do if I test positive for covid while I’m away?
Not everyone with blood cancer needs antivirals or antibody treatments for covid, but some do. For many people, covid can seem mild at first but then get worse.
Before you go away, make sure you:
- Have all of your covid vaccinations, including the spring booster
- Ask your healthcare team what you should do if you get covid while you are away
- Have contact numbers for your healthcare team, including numbers for evenings and weekends
- Take a recent clinic letter and any medication paperwork with you
- Take lateral flow tests away with you, and test if you get symptoms
- Get travel insurance if you can - Macmillan have some information on travel insurance.
- Ask your healthcare team for a letter to take with you, detailing your current diagnosis, treatment and condition overview, medication list, fitness to travel, and eligibility for new covid treatments.
If you get covid while you are away, tell your healthcare team straight away and get their advice.
You can also check the policy for covid treatments in the country you are visiting by contacting their health authority. If you have a UK European Health Insurance Card (UK EHIC) that hasn’t expired yet, or a UK Global Health Insurance Card (UK GHIC), you can access the same medical treatments as residents of the country you are in. So if covid treatments like Paxlovid are available in the country you are in, and you would be eligible for it according to that country’s guidance, you might be able to access it there.
Hi @lillian it sounds as if you are taking all reasonable precautions.
I expect you will feel safer at your own house.
Have a brilliant time.
Hi Lynne
On a recommendation here, I used Insurance With, and I was really pleased with it. I did it online, and the questions demonstrated an in depth understanding of the conditions I have, and the total cost for me, my son and husband for a 3 week hol in Tenerife - with additional insurance to protect against airport disruption etc - was £186. I thought that was very good considering I had a Stem cell transplant 18 months ago.
You could just enter a destination and dates, without having booked your holiday, to see what they’re likely to charge you. No proof of booking is needed.
Hope you have something lovely in mind! Good luck with it.
Thank you I’m just worried about my hair, as im on Hydroxycarbamide my hair is much thinner, scared to brush it, they said that it will get thin but i wont loose it all, but i was thinking about using moose to see if it would look better, what do you think about moose.
Hi @lillian I will copy your question to the Blood Cancer UK nurse advisors @GemmaBloodCancerUK @LauranBloodCancerUK @Heidi_BloodCancerUK,
I also have very thin hair exacerbated by a couple of operations on the top of my head, it’s the Friar Tuck look.
Take care
Hello @lillian ,
If you are nervous about brushing your hair, then try a very wide toothed comb or baby brush to start with. You could buy some very gentle shampoo. Some hairdressers are experienced in thinning hair, alopecia, and patients having chemotherapy. It might be worth ringing a couple in your local area and asking them for product advice. I can’t see moose being too harsh on your hair. Maybe the hairdresser can suggest some new styles for you too?
Have a lovely holiday. (Don’t forget your sun hat!)
Take care, best wishes.
Heidi.
