Fractures with Myelofibrosis

Hi @Willow. I am wondering if you have had any luck getting your support boot yet. How are you now? Are your feet feeling any better? I broke my ankle and tore the ligaments and tendons after a fall, back in September 2021, and it still causes me pain after all this time, so I have some idea of what you are going through. Take care of yourself. Best wishes from Chris. :tulip:

Hello @Chris1. Thank you so much for asking. The Christmas and new period has delayed things. I have been told two boots have been ordered, one small and one medium, for me to try. I am waiting for a phone call to let me know when they have arrived so that I can go to the hospital and try them. My fractures are stress fractures, ie, cracks in the bones at the side of the foot. It’s complicated by my cerebral palsy which means I put a lot of weight on different parts of my feet. I also have osteoporosis which doesn’t help. It’s not straightforward but the doctor I saw recently couldn’t seem to grasp the complexities despite me explaining it to him. How are you doing? Warm wishes. Willow X

Hello @Willow. I am glad to hear that your support boots have been ordered. I do hope that you don’t have to wait too much longer for them. I am sure it will make such a difference to your comfort and pain levels. I wore mine for 8 weeks, and it was helpful, keeping the foot in the most comfortable position, thus decreasing the pain. I hope yours will encourage your stress fractures to heal. Your Osteoporosis must be such a nuisance. I have osteopenia, but so far I have been lucky with not having suffered much in the way of bone problems. I have been suffering uncomfortable head pain and pressure for a couple of weeks, so I am struggling a bit. Not sure if it is due to the ET or the neurological problems I have. I am seeing the neurologist at the end of this month, so I will mention it to him. I hope you are feeling well, in spite of all your ongoing health issues. Take care of yourself. Love and best wishes from Chris. :tulip:

Thank you @Erica. It is so kind of you to remember and to ask. The saga continues, I am afraid! I collected a support boot for my right foot in January. I feel it is protecting the fracture but it is very cumbersome and makes me walk more lopsided. Consequently it is aggravating my back pain. Ever since receiving the boot I have been waiting for a home visit by a physiotherapist to advise me regarding weight bearing and use of my crutches. It is supposed to a rapid access service and I keep chasing it up. Consequently I feel rather in limbo at the moment. A custom-made splint has been ordered to try and hold my foot in a better position but I am not sure if my foot will comply, having found its own way of working for over 60 years! Also, not sure how the splint will work with the support boot? Rather a lot to cope with, in addition to my blood cancer especially as my Hb and platelets are low at the moment. Hope you are doing okay Erica and thanks again. Warm wishes, Willow x
