Gut health repair after Lenalidomide treatment

Hello
My mum has recently stopped Lenalidomide as she couldn’t tolerate the impact on her body after 15 months. She is also stopping the steroids and antibiotics she’s on. The treatment for multiple myeloma has damaged her gut microbiome and we are looking for a recommendation of a cancer nutritionalist or dietician to help her gently repair it and then hopefully she’ll feel better than she does now. If you have sought specialist advice from a nutritionalist, specifically post treatment, and it has been a positive experience, please could you share their details? Thank you. I should add she is currently in remission.

Hi @Emma2,

Thank you for your post. I’m so sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis and the difficulty she’s had coping with the side-effects of treatment. It’s really understandable you want to get specialist support around this. However, in our terms of use for the forum we ask that people don’t share names/recommendations for healthcare professionals.

Can I ask if you’ve already spoken to your mum’s Clinical Nurse Specialist or Haematologist about her symptoms? If not, it would be a good idea to let them know about your concerns and ask whether they can refer her to a dietician.

We also have some information on our website on mucositis (sore mouth or gut) which you may find helpful to read as it is a common side effect of some blood cancer treatments.

I hope this helps, but, if it would be useful to talk things through in more detail with one of our experienced blood cancer nurses, please don’t hesitate to get in touch on 0808 2080 888 or by emailing support@bloodcancer.org.uk.

Take care,

Tom
