Hi everyone. My husband was diagnosed with Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in October 2024. After about 3-weeks of having the diagnosis, he has been getting dull headaches. Have spoken to his clinical Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) nurse, and she says it is probably down to the worry of it all. Which is what we think too. Did anyone else experience this on getting the diagnosis?
Hi @Wp54Zba no, I have not had headaches, but perhaps for peace of mind he might wish to see his GP.
Look after and be kind to yourselves and please do let us know how he gets on.
Thankyou Erica. That will be our next port of call. Thankyou. Xx
Hi @Wp54Zba
So sorry to hear about your husband’s headaches - they must be so horrid for him to live with.
Seeing the GP to have them checked out sounds like a good plan. In case it is down to the worry, I just wanted to also share our Blood cancer: mind and emotions | Blood Cancer UK webpage, which has some relaxation exercises that may help. I know it’s not easy to turn off the worry but perhaps doing things that you find relaxing may just reduce the chance of the headaches.
Take good care of yourselves,
Kind regards,
Ali
Hi,
I too have CCL having being diagnosed 18 months ago, just after my 69th Birthday. However, by chance, a blood test uncovered recently for another condition taken in 2019 had a Lymphoma Marker. It appears I have had this malady for 5 years. Anyway, enough of me. To your point re hubby and headaches. I had, what I imagine to be similar headaches after my diagnosis. After seeing GP, we came to the conclusion it was stress related.
I have been an avid cyclists for some years and yet, when I got the news about the blood cancer I went into my shell, feeling a little sorry for myself, so much so that I stopped cycling. My wife and GP gave me a good kick up the backside and told me to get back exercising. I did, and my headaches disappeared. Don’t get me wrong, I am in 'Watch and Wait," so still get anxious from time to time, but the bike and occasional visit to the gym help me inordinately.
Oh @Antony a great big welcome to our forum and I found your experiences so insightful.I reckon it is OK
I am a very visual person and I have to admit to having a little chuckle at your wife and GP giving you a metaphorical good kick up the backside to get you back exercising
I am a great advocate of fresh air and appropriate exercise, I am a great walker, it really helps me and I am also a Pilates girl.
I look forward to hearing more about you and I think many of us can learn a lot from you.
I also find this is a place where I can be really honest how it is for me and I hope you will be able to as well.
Really look after yourself
Hi Erica,
Many thanks for your support.
Hi Antony,
Thankyou so much for your post. Yes, my husband was having headaches, but thankfully they went after a couple of weeks. It was stress related. Almost to a point where he couldn’t stop thinking about his Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). Waking up thinking about his diagnosis and going to bed thinking about his diagnosis. Reassurance from our fabulous haematology team helped so much.
And this fabulous forum. And to Erica. I love the way you say be kind to yourself. It’s so comforting.
Thanks everyone. Xx
Yes @Wp54Zba be ever so kind to yourself !!
Look after yourself as well as you do your husband
