High basophils

Hello,
I posted not long ago and found your responses really useful. I had a second blood test which has revealed significantly higher results and abnormalities. I’m awaiting to be seen by haematology, but the consultant that examined my blood film has said that my results are highly indicative of Chronic myeloid leukaemia. I just wondered if anyone would mind sharing their personal experiences of diagnosis. I’m particularly worried about my basophils as they are very high (3.22) and very high platelets (100k +). I’m so anxious that I’m already in the accelerated stage. I know I will find out after testing, but I wondered if anyone else had high basophils etc, but was still in the chronic stage at diagnosis? I’m ultimately hoping for reassurance really! Thank you so much!

Hi @LisaRog and welcome back.
I’m glad you going the forum useful last time and hope that you will again.
I have a different blood cancer and although each journey is different, I am sure there will be others who will be able to share their experiences with you?
Remember to write down all those questions ready for the next appointment. Do you have a date? Sometimes waiting can be the hardest part x

Oh @LisaRog your anxiety really comes from your post.
I cannot really reassure you as we are not medically trained on here.
From what you say you have had tests done and are awaiting being seen by haematology.
@Nichola75 has given you a great response.
The waiting is the worst.
Perhaps try and divert your mind by doing something you enjoy, you cannot do anything else, you are awaiting others.
Be ever so kind to yourself and please do let us know how you get on.

Thank you so much. No date yet, but I have been told I will be seen within 3 days due to some of the abnormalities. Yes good idea, I will write my questions down, thank you!

Just a little update. My platelets are now 1.3m and all abnormal levels have now increased. The NHS can’t see me until next week and even then it’s just a phone appointment! I decided to see a private haematologist, who has arranged the diagnostic test for Chronic myeloid leukaemia which I’m having tomorrow. Meanwhile, I’m not feeling particularly well and concerned that my platelets will be even higher on the next test!

Hi @LisaRog Please do let us know how you get on.
Perhaps write down all your fears, questions, symptoms and practicalities.
In my experience anxiety can really affect how I feel and my blood test results can fluctuate.
Really look after yourself, I reckon waiting and not knowing is the worst.
