Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone could give me some advice? I had my blood count done and my platelet count was 600,000 I was referred to get my X-rays done, bloods and a FIT test which I’m waiting on still. My bloods a couple of weeks later has come back 488,000 (I’m currently on my cycle when I had these bloods done) I’ve tried talking to a nurse about my tests and I’ve been going out my mind expecially when I’ve just lost my dad from cancer and my doctors saying they got to rule it out. Is that a good sign? They are wanting to see me on the 17th to discuss my results and do my bloods again in 6 weeks
Oh @Court a great big welcome, thanks for posting and my thoughts are with you having just lost your dad to cancer.
I expect that you have so much going on and your thoughts and emotions are probably all over the place.
I expect you are also having a lot of practicalities to sort out.
Perhaps remember that all tests are to rule conditions in or out, which might be what the doctor meant.
Also I would not usually expect your nurse to talk to you about your tests results until all the results are back and I have found some take longer than others.
This gives a better picture to your doctor and team, otherwise they would not have asked for the tests in the first place.
Perhaps now gives you the opportunity to write down all your fears, questions and practicalities for the 17th.
I have found that it is normal to have bloods taken at regular intervals to see the changes. It is called active monitoring or watch and wait.
My thoughts would be to be ever so kind and really look after yourself, I have found there is a lot of waiting and not knowing which I find is anxiety making.
Please do let us know how you get on.
Thank you! Yes anxiety take a troll at moment aswell as grieving. I was just wondering if it’s a good sign that my platelet levels have gone down
Hi @Court perhaps that is a good question for your appointment on the 17th as your medical team know your whole medical history.
Gosh grieving and anxiety must be so, so hard on you, be very kind to yourselves and please do keep posting
Hi @Court,
Welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear that you have recently lost your dad and are now having investigations of your own. It sounds like its been a really worrying time for you and it is understandable that you are concerned.
Please can ask who you are seeing on the 17th? Is it your GP or the haematology team? It is good to hear that your platelet level has come down. There can be many reasons why platelets may elevated including infection and inflammation however its important to find the cause.
I am pleased to hear that you are having your bloods checked regularly and you have a follow up on 17th. Do let them know how you are feeling and your concerns.
Our support nurses are here for you, if you would like to discuss this further on 0808 2080 888
Take care
