Immune System Failing

Good Day All - First time on here, whilst in ‘hospital recovery’ after a major op 5 years ago I lost 5 units of blood; they had to rush me back in a do a ‘few fixes’. The post-op analysis revealed myeloma, von Willebrand disease and cancerous lumps on my kidneys. Anyway that’ the back story - my question for here is as follows.

Like many/all of you I have an increasingly immuno-suppressed system and have tried everything I can to boost my white blood cells, seemingly to no avail.

Up to 15 months ago I was still reasonably active, cycling 20 miles a day and playing soccer with my son. Then out of the blue, the day after a cycle ride I found my breathing to be exceptionally difficult with a tight chest and wheezing.

This has got progressively worse over time, preventing me from taking any exercise at all. I’ve had repeated chest infections and a continual(!) sinus infection. I don’t mingle with any ill/sick individuals, live a reasonably healthy lifestyle under the circumstances and don’t smoke and very rarely have a drink of alcohol. Basically my immune system is shot.

I have been on numerous courses of steroids, inhalers, antibiotics plus various scans - you name it I’ve tried it. I have regular monitoring by a haematology doctor, I’m part of a blood cancer monitoring programme and, apart from my local GP, I’ve also seen an ENT specialist - again all to no avail. My wife god bless her, daily gives me foods to boost white blood cells

So, my question is (at last you say) does anyone else have similar experience with they immune system? And more importantly have they discovered anything along the way that helps (even a little bit) to get it back on track?

And thanks in advance for reading this far - you deserve a gold star!

Bless you Rick, nice to see you here. I have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (Fed up with trying to spell it right.) My immune system is not good, I describe some of my white blood cells as X SAS Soldiers with dementia. I was diagnosed a year ago this 31st July 2025, since then have been ill several times, just last week went to Doctor as had very angry looking raised yellow and red (Blobs, not spots as never seen anything like them before.) So So itchy, Doctor said he didn’t know what they were? Had blood tests done (Again) he put me on anti-biotic cream which has def. helped start to clear them up, and calm the itching down. It does feel like my body is giving up on me? Lets try to stay positive Rick. I eat many more vegetables now, take 1 multivitamin tablet a day as I constantly feel tired. I am looking (like you are Rick) for anything to help my immune system and help those white blood cells to do a better job? Wouldn’t it be great if we could just take a syrup which was full of strong fighting SAS white blood cells? (Please excuse my imagination, and my sense of humour helps me to cope now. Lets keep searching for help with our immune system Rick. Thank you for the gold star.

Hi Plobdule - glad you made it to the gold star! Humour, may not be a cure, but it is indeed a much underrated medicine; thank you for your response.

Yep, I stay positive (there is no alternative) and my dearly beloved has found new ways to get me to consume a whole host of foods (that I didn’t previously consume) with high levels of vitamin C along with antioxidants and beta carotene, all to help fight infections, such as spinach, kale, collard greens, garlic, (crazy, just been told I’m not allowed to type the word Golf India November Golf Echo Romeo on here as it’s deemed offensive :person_facepalming:), turmeric and kefir but to name a few. The colour of my daily smoothie is a sight to behold .

Also daily consuming omega 3, 6 & 9, vitamins c & d and zinc - all in the best possible taste. Maybe they’ll do some good. maybe they won’t - but they certainly won’t do me any harm.

The fatigue is a drag, I’m not sure whether it is a bi-product of the myeloma or just old age as I’m still working well beyond normal retirement age - c’est la vie.

Anyway, thanks again for your response, and maybe we’ll come up with that magic syrup one day!

Stay strong and keep smiling!

Golf India November Golf Echo Romeo is deemed offensive? Oh my word! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: I was not aloud to put Hotel Echoe Lima Lima so I must be a rebel like you are Rick? This time next year we will be millionaires if we find that magic syrup to help fight infections etc. I will keep smiling.
