Insect Bites

Hi all, I wonder if anyone with T Cell NH Lymphoma is being plagued by mosquito bites. For the past week I have had numerous bites, not only arms and legs and anything else exposed but now torso is being chewed on too. I’ve applied all the usual remedies ie Jungle Formula, bite relief sprays etc. Used ice-packs on the itchiest, sprayed bedding, clothes etc but nothing is helping. I also take an anti-allergy tablet. Most of the bites blister and ooze a liquid, but this doesn’t stop the itch. Do mosquitos especially like blood cancer patients I wonder - any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi @Sandy2 I have also been bitten, but all my life, pre Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), insects have targeted me as opposed to others.
I have always said that it is because I am just tasty.
However if you are concerned then please do seek medical advice especially if you are currently having treatment or have had it recently and have not your vaccinations.
We are experiencing unseasonably hot weather here and I think that makes the bites even more itchy.
Good question though and I await others experiences.
Look after yourself and please do keep posting how you are doing.

Hello @Sandy2
This is such an interesting question - and whilst having itchy bites is no fun at all, I have giggled thinking about how I never get bitten and my husband always does.
I heard a long time ago that mosquitoes (not sure about other biting insects) have a blood type preference. I’d presumed it must be A type, as I am O type and my husband is A. However, I have just looked into it, and it turns out they prefer O type! mosquitoes/blood-type I find this very surprising. I do add a lot of garlic in my meals, not sure if this is why I am not so tasty to them.
In our house we have a liquid pen to put on bites, in a white tube called ‘After-Bite’ just from a local pharmacy.
I wonder if anyone uses any of the plug-in anti-mosquito packs, as may be these could be something to try?
Hopefully others can recommend some other relief methods or preventions to you that are helpful and work for you.
I hope you manage to get some relief soon.
Do let us know if you find something that does help.
Take care, Heidi.

Hi, thanks for your replies.
I’m “A Positive” blood group and have never suffered more than the occasional bite, generally by a horsefly and always aware of their particular nasty sting when it happens. The critters that are munching on me now are very secretive and appear with no warning at all, I’ve never seen what is eating me. It’s driving me nuts, especially at bed time when things warm up. I’'m frightened to cover up and frightened not too, just in case something is lurking somewhere. Last night I smothered arms and legs with Vic (for colds) on arms and legs and chest. No extra bites this morning I’m glad to report. Perhaps this might be an answer (although a bit messy for bedding). Please keep thoughts and suggestions coming in. I will try and get a couple of plug-ins for extra security. Thanks again.

Hi @Sandy2 and @Heidi_BloodCancerUK well garlic and Vic are ideas.
I am an ‘O’ type myself and so is my husband that has never been bitten in his life.
