Interferon or hydroxycarbamide?

Oh @Modesigns if it’s not one thing it’s another, I am sorry to hear about your breast lump, and as you say we certainly don’t chose these things.
I found my anxiety actually seemed to compound itself with every extra condition I thought I had.
Good news about your platelets though.
How lovely to have a borrowed veg garden and even better when the fruits of your labour start to yield crops.
I am also so glad that you are still enjoying your painting.
Please do let us know how you get on on Tuesday, I will be thinking of you.
Be kind to yourself

Thanks for keeping us updated @Modesigns.
It must be a lot to take in for you at the moment.
I hope the sunshine stays shining for you the next couple of weeks so you can get out in your veg garden.

Too much to write about ATM…it has been a difficult journey starting with being first on the surgical list, then having to go back to theatre because I bled too much, so was opened up a second time.
There is a lot more to tell, but need to go to bed for an early appointment to discuss drainage. Some have only had one bottle and I am now on my 6th!

I wonder how many Essential thrombocythemia (ET) blood cancer people have had mastectomies?

Blood cancer and breast cancer have been having difficulty getting on together in my body!!!

I will come back when a few things are back to normal!

Thank you all. Still going through a rocky path. Have an acquired hospital infection - due to would or drain not yet sure. Pseudomonas aeruginosa being treated as of yesterday by high dose Ciprofloxacin. Rest alternating with hospital visits to be dressed and drained. have an oncology consultation tomorrow, along with dressing and draining. Thank you again.

Oh, @Modesigns an infection is the last thing I expect you wanted.
You must be absolutely exhausted with medical visits, I find them really draining.
Thinking of you please do let us know how you get on after tomorrows oncology appointment.
Be very kind to yourself.

Responding to the strong antibiotics, so the infection is on the mend, but still a way to go.
Was dressed and drained, much more efficiently this time!

Good news was that although I discover I had actually 2 breast cancers, not one, I do not need any further treatment, so no radiotherapy or hormone therapy. So very good news.

It was like getting blood out of a stone to get all the information from the consultant. I asked a lot of questions, to which I wanted answers! Was worth the persistence!

Re the infection, they had a particularly cavalier attitude to that, and to delays in getting antibiotics, and I have come to the conclusion there is ignorance re the condition. Certainly I realised that on Wednesday. The Registrar Assistant really didn’t know the condition or the seriousness of it…so doubt she knew about morbidity etc. I didn’t know at that stage either, and she gave me no info although I insisted on knowing the name. She was wanting me to come back the next day to get the medication as there was no-one to sign it off. I said no, I would wait because there had already been too much delay!

Seems we have to be two steps ahead if we want to stay safe!

The consultant did acknowledge that my blood cancer did make a difference re my bleeding rate.
I wonder how many consultants really get to grips with co-morbidities?

I was/am definitely immune compromised, especially after all of this, and my infection could be devastating to another person who is immunocompromised It is contagious. I saw no real infection control as I was being managed! So I only hope they were dealing with very healthy bodies today and on Wednesday last.

Knowledge is power! In this instance I prefer it to ignorance. I am certainly not ready to stop living!

Thank you all for the support - and for letting me rant! XX

After two rounds of serious antibiotics, I have now, today, finally finished them. I attended an appointment today for a final possible drainage, but it is not now needed, and they are happy with the progress, I have survived the infection, and am finally beginning to feel that I am on the mend.
On Saturday it will be exactly a month since the operation, or rather, the two operations.

I have managed to stay awake all day today, and to have a lovely hour long video talk with a friend, and to not feel drained after it. I have also managed to visit my vegetable allotment style garden and have my husband pick some vegetables - sprouting broccoli, red stemmed chard, my first sweet potatoes, some parsley, two squash pumpkins, some small beetroot, and a ‘verging on marrow’ courgette! It is lovely to pick our own veg. Though the garden has had to manage without any input from me over the past month!

So, from now on, I think I think it is all on the way up! My next appointment is for this time next year…not counting an appointment to discuss a prosthesis - but for the moment the idea of trying on a bra is not at all welcome!!

Has anyone else with Essential Thrombocythaemia had bleeding problems with an operation? I am curious to know…

Hi @Modesigns you have had 2 big operations and had that infection so be very kind to yourself.
However something that surpasses medication sometimes is a video talk with a friend or also visiting your vegetable allotment (I can picture it now) and picking your own veg.
Perhaps give yourself a break before trying on a bra.
I hope someone with be able to answer your question about having bleeding problems with an operation, it will be interesting to see.
Really look after yourself and take it steady.
