Hi @Jude13 please let us know what you think of Ensure plus.
Yes, needs must.
Hi @Jude13 ,thats good, thanks for posting . I havent tried those drinks ,just fortisip. I am the same as you with sugar. My pharmacy let me choose which flavours first before he ordered in ,perhaps you can ask ?I just stick to neutral /vanilla .I, Just drink it down its not bad and its helping so thats the main thing,or you could add it to yogurt.
Ill look forward to hearing how you go.

Hi Bananacake, Oh these drinks are not recommended lol! So so sweet & just vile to drink & the dumb doctor prescribed a month of the same flavour! Strawberry! Everytime I see a Strawberry from now on, I will remember this taste but needs must. I rang the chemist & they said they have lemon & lime, vanilla & also apple so will give those a go next month as I couldnât do another month of Strawberry!!!
Hi Erica, Oh no Ensure plus is just awul but will take them for the month & hope the other flavours are not as sweet as the Strawberry!
Hi @Jude13 oh no ,I cant beleive it ,well done you for drinking them though, you are brave .Yes least you know next lot will be better.Usually
Youâre given a choice at first but these days anything is "but usually "Youâll have to invent a way of disguising the flavour Hang on in there it took me about a month to see a difference and im hoping you will feel stronger. What a challenge
Bannanacake
Hi @Jude13 how are the drinks going any ideas to make them more palatable yet?
Hang in there
Hi Erica, thank you for posting. I am so sorry I am late replying, been feeling really unwell. Oh the drinks âŚâŚ tried them in a natural yogourt but still yukky & far too sweet. They kind of repeat for hours afterwards, hopefully the other flavours will be better.
So wanted a good nights sleep last night but the arm which I had the line in for the contrast dye ( the vein popped) started throbbing & itâs been 7 weeks now! Think maybe they hit a nerve.
Oh @Jude13 I really do hope that you can find a more palatable flavour of drink and one that doesnât repeat for hours afterwards.
Perhaps it is worth just checking out that your arm is OK. 7 weeks is a long time and anything that disturbs my sleep is in trouble. I need my zzzzzzzâs to function.
Look after yourself
Hi @Jude13 ,thats good to hear you are keeping ,up with the drinks
despite the after effects ,if it was me I would ask for another flavour
Its obvious the acid fruity drink isnt helping your tum .I looked back and see you could have vanilla. If any prescribed medication is causing upset its worth reporting to your Dr ,youâve given strawberry your best shot so to speak. If you cant get a change ask some advice from Chemist or Dr for some anti indegestion treatment to stop the repeat .(I know what thats like )
The popping vein sounds a bit alarming ,as@Erica says it would be worth checking out with the Nurse your arm if it needs a dressing or is it just bulged out .
Also have you had an update on rescheduling the appointment that was cancelled.
Yes ,you canât beat a good nights sleep.
Hope it works out

Hi Bananacake,
Thank you so much for posting.I received a call and I go a week tomorrow to the one stop shop. There is such an increase in Covid cases now, resulting in a lot of staff shortages everywhere, so fingers crossed this appointment wonât be cancelled.
Re the drinks, yes, Vanilla hopefully wonât be as bad. I have been taking Gaviscon as the acid has been quite bad. I canât begin to explain how sweet they are. I have dreaded taking them.
I have emailed the receptionist about my arm so just waiting for a call back from a GP but they canât say when that will be! Honestly, itâs getting more & more difficult to speak with a GP let alone see one. Seems to be the case everywhere.
Hi @Jude13,thats good at least you have a date.
Re the drinks I know what you mean sickly sweet ,the mocha is a bit like that ,I couldnt tolerate the fruit ones.I used to have gaviscon tabs but now Iâm on mucogel liquid perhaps you could get it prescribed, its very effective .It is so diffucult with covid
how its interferes with appointments ,both at the GPs and
Out Patient appointments .Yes covid does seem to be running rampant again.
Ive got used to taking pictures if I have anything im bothered about
and e mail to Dr it helps if they can see it and seems to be the thing to do.Im pretty lucky where we live and can at least get a response that day if its urgent.
You are very good to keep going with the flavour but it would be great if you could get another variety.
Thanks for posting @Jude13
Bannanacake
Hi @Jude13,wishing you all the best for tomorrow trust your appointment is still going ahead.
Bannanacake
Thank you so much Bananacake but tomorrows appointment has been cancelled along with my blood test appointment for yesterday. The Hospital has issued a Black alert now. I canât go for my blood tests until April 13th but will have to wait for a phone call again for a new appointment. Covid cases are very bad here now.
Been feeling really unwell & so wiped out. Have the Vanilla drinks, donât taste as nice as they sound but better than the Stawberry! Wonât be wanting a Starwberry this summer lol.
Oh @Jude13 I expect that you were all keyed up for your cancelled appointments too.
Yes, Covid cases rising all over the place.
I am not surprised that you have an aversion to strawberries now and how disappointing that the vanilla are not much better.
Perhaps stress how unwell and wiped out you feel when you talk to someone medical,
Again the waiting is the worst.
Look after yourself and be kind to yourself
Hi @Jude13 oh dear ,I really feel for you ,but its true unfortunately, I canât beleive the rise in covid its so infectious this time so in way not surprising .Im sure you are feeling totally wiped out as@Erica says is there a way you can get the attention of your Dr to say how unwell you are, least if you could get your blood test earlier or let him /her know your symptoms . Im glad to hear that youâve got the vanilla, a bit of an improvement and I hope its helping .
Bannanacake
Hi Bannacake & Erica, thank you both for posting. I am spending most of my days recently, sleeping! I go for a nap & sleep for like 4 hours & still feel wiped out when I wake. I am now thinking all sorts. I was suppose to have gone into Hospital around a year ago for a cystoscopy, due to bladder issues but it didnât go ahead. I am still having those same issues & wonder if thats why I have these altered signals on my bone marrow.
I will try again to ring the GP in the morning, hopefully, be able to speak to one. They have have not answered my email this time. I donât understand why they now only have an emeregency line. It has been this way since Xmas. Everything else has opened up ⌠even the dentists. I really donât know wether to go private for an MRI scan of my torso as I may not be seen at the one stop shop for some time, due to staff shortages. The GP receptionist told me I am not able to have my blood tests at the practice as they only do cancer patients & exceptional cases so she said I will just have to wait! They all seem to have an attitude these days, which is not justified as I do ask politely.
Hi @Jude 13,I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so âwashed upâ.I read what you say about the GP receptionist saying they only do cancer and exceptional cases but hang on I would say to the receptionist that you were reffered by your GP to a" one stop shop "because he thought that may be the case so who is now taking responsibility ?does your GP know your appointment was cancelled ?
Your GP reffered you for weight loss ,tiredness and bone marrow investigations so could you find a way of repeating this to the receptionist even if its the emergency line and try another email.? Plus im sure you are very polite ,but sometimes âŚfirm persistence ,easier said than done, you did get the vanilla drink sorted though !I can understand your worry as you missed the cystoscopy .Could you ring the BCUK support line iâm sure their advice and support will help you decide what to do and Iâm sure @Erica will have something good to say.Im watching this space and hoping that you get a result which way to go very soon .
Bannanacake
@Jude13 Iâm so sorry to hear your appointment was cancelled. I hope you manage to get through to the GP today to sort out a new appointment - donât be afraid to be persistent and please do give us a call on 0808 2080 888 if you want to talk things through with us. Our support line is open until 7pm today. Take care
Hi @Jude13 you do sound really, really wiped out and as we all know worrying and anxiety just makes the feelings worse.
I find I have to limit the time I sleep for during the day otherwise I do not sleep well at night. You could prop me up against a wall and I can fall asleep usually.
I have learnt to be âpleasantly assertiveâ it does not come naturally and we should not have to be like it.
I have found I need to ring my surgery at opening time in the morning and later in the week is best.
My surgery has now got this phone system where the recorded message asks you to book and request things via their surgery website and then the recorded message says to only stay on the line if it is an emergency. I have been known to stay on the line to speak to someone.
I have also gone into the surgery at opening time to try and get an appointment and even been known to tell a very, very, tiny, naughty white lie that I have not got internet access. Desperate times call for desperate measures !!!
Let us know how you get on and look after yourself
Hi Alice and thank you. I did ring & speak with a nurse who was so lovely. I have now decided to go ahead with a private MRI.
