My pappa was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia in 2013. He has been having blood transfusions ever since every 4 weeks to keep him going. He is a fighter but he is slowing down and it is breaking my heart to see him like this. I know the transfusions are not working as much as they did. He is 76 yrs old.
Sometimes when i watch him walk its like it takes all his strength. He gets tired easily. We know he will develop Leukemia and because of his age and his body weakness he cannot have a bone marrow transplant. I am just feeling helpless.
Hi @Pammy7610 I am so glad that you have found us, welcome.
Your caring for your pappa really comes from your post
I think it is really natural to feel helpless as a a child of someone with an illness, you are the one looking at him…
What I am wondering as I am reading your post is has your pappa told his medical team how he is feeling and what your pappa’s medical team are actually saying?
If not perhaps you might sit down with him and write down the fears, questions and practicalities for him to ask.
Can you go with him and would he let you ask the questions?
I was diagnosed with leukaemia 20 yrs ago so I have learnt to be ‘pleasantly assertive’ over the years. I am now 74 yrs ago.
We are here for both of you so please do keep posting.
Really look after yourselves and spoil yourselves.
